Can a large winch have air go through?

I've been trying to build a underwater vehcile with a snorkle but havent been able to get air through it and im not sure if Im just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up somehow or if air cant do that. So far Ive just been using a large winch

I got a snorkel to work ages ago but it required the use of pumps. Unless things have changed, a small pump was only good for less than 10 metres of submersion whereas a large pump works up to 70m. Even though the air entry point is at sea level it still seems to work off whatever depth the engine is at. If you have exhaust and air intake in your snorkel with large pumps on both, it may just work. As a precaution I also put a fluid filter on the tip to keep seawater out.I hope this helps, good luck!
