game hangs on launch
On 100% of the time launching the game: I see the Unity splash, then the game hangs after it goes away but before the menu loads. I've tried reinstalling.

Any help is appreciated. Before this started, I really enjoyed playing the game with (against) friends, and appreciate that it supports remote play together.

Hi Ockvil! I'm sorry you're having this issue. It's possible that your game is trying to submit a really large log file. You could try deleting the file so that there's nothing to submit on startup.

The file should be located here on Windows:
"C:\Users\brett\AppData\LocalLow\Bowlcut Studios\MageQuit\NetworkLog.txt"
(Obviously replace "brett" with whatever your Windows username is)

Let me know if that fixes your issue!

If that doesn't work, would you be willing to post the contents of output_log.txt from that same folder? It may contain a hint as to what is going wrong.

Thanks for your quick response, Brett.

Deleting the NetworkLog.txt file in that folder did help, and I think the game is now playable. However, it hangs after the Bowlcut Studios splash appears, for maybe close to a minute, before proceeding to the game's main menu.

After choosing the quit option from the main menu, it then hangs again — I think for even longer — until it finally quits.

Here's the contents of output_log.txt in that same folder, hopefully it clears up what's going on. In this session, after launching the game, I chose the 'Couch' option when the menu appeared, then backed out to the main menu and exited the game using the menu option, all using a controller. As described above, it hung after the Bowlcut Studios splash and again on exit.

Out of maybe an excess of caution, I replaced anything that looked like it might be PII with [deleted].

I'm wondering if there's some sort of firewall issue that's preventing your game from reaching bowlcutstudios.com -- I've added you on Discord to assist you further :)

A couple other things you could try besides disabling your firewall:
1. Restart your PC (this is kind of a catchall for all PC issues lol)
2. Restart your router

It's very likely a firewall issue then, as I tend to prune unnecessary connections. Or I also run Dan Pollock's hosts file (https://someonewhocares.org/hosts/), with some modifications, that disables a lot of outgoing connections. As well as a PiHole. Any of those could be it.

No problem! I usually don't assume that it's a firewall issue because most players aren't power users, but you clearly are hahaha. You could try adding an exception for bowlcutstudios.com, and maybe even magequit.com and see if that helps!

I should add, the fact that it hangs is due to your game not being able to retrieve your game progress from our servers (XP, gems, unlocked wardrobe, etc). So while the game is "playable", you won't be able to level up, earn gems, unlock wardrobe items unless those calls make it through.
