2. It has online and local multiplayer.
Up to 8 players can play in a local game on the same computer screen. BUT they have to share one controller/mouse at the moment (so you have to watch carefully, whose turn it is now). Multicontrollersupport is on the wishlist as a dev said.
In online mode you can open a server for up to 8 people too, but this is only a soft limit. More people can join an online server, but it got a little messy with more than 12 players when I did. (But this depends on the computer and the internet connection of the one who is hosting the game. All this can still change when the devs continue to tweak the game.)
