Golf It!

Great game but the controls are a mess!
Just bought the game and for the most part I really like it - it's in good shape already, the 'feel' is good (important for a mini-golf game) and there is already lots of functionality (especially with the new local multiplayer mode).

However one thing that immediately sticks out is that the controls are a bit of a mess. As far as I can work out, there are four different control systems when playing with a mouse and keyboard, depending on whether you are playing 'Classic' or 'Hard' mode and have alternative shoot ticked or unticked.

Classic Mode (No Alternative shoot) -
1. Move the mouse to aim/look around.
2. Press right-click once to lock the view (arrow appears to show you exactly what direction the ball will go in).
3. Press left click once and the putter appears.
4. Drag the mouse back and push forwards to hit the ball - the distance you drag back and the speed you push forwards determines how hard you hit the ball

Classic Mode (Alternative shoot on) -
1. Move the mouse to aim/look around.
2. Press right-click once to lock the view (arrow appears to show you exactly what direction the ball will go in).
3. Press left click once and the putter appears.
4. Drag the mouse back and press left click to hit the ball - how far you drag the mouse\putter back before pressing left click determines how hard you hit the ball.

Hard Mode (No alternative shoot)
1. Move the mouse to aim/look around.
2. Press and hold left click (not right) to lock the view (no arrow appears this time) and the putter appears.
3. Still holding left click, drag the mouse back and push forwards to hit the ball - the distance you drag back and the speed you push forwards determines how hard you hit the ball.

Hard Mode (Alternative shoot on)
1. Move the mouse to aim/look around.
2. Press and hold left click (not right) to lock the view (no arrow appears this time) and the putter appears.
3. Still holding left click, drag the mouse back and press RIGHT click (not left) to hit the ball - how far you drag the mouse\putter back before pressing RIGHT click determines how hard you hit the ball.

And I've not even tried with an actual controller to see how that works yet!

I can see why there are two control schemes in Classic mode - I prefer the alternative shoot most of the time, but the original controls are also quite fun when playing with friends. Why though do both totally change for the hard mode?

There does not seem to be any need - as far as I can tell, hard mode just removes the aiming arrow. It still locks the view and you still have either drag back/push forward or drag back/click to hit the ball (just in a totally different way to before!). Why are the controls not the same for both modes?

I should also add, for both control schemes on the classic mode, step 3 seems totally redundant - why not have the putter appear as soon as you press right click to lock the view rather than having to press left click as well?

Hey,

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I agree with you that the controls need to be improved and don't feel right yet. In one of the upcoming updates I will change the controls to make them more fluid and fun without changing much from one mode to another.

Thanks and take care,

Jonas

the controls are very difficult if you don't turn on alternative controls. especially if you have no space to work with when using the mouse. Trackball mouse highly advised.

Just a small addition to this.

The controls are much better now that they have been re-designed but please can you split the invert mouse option so that you can invert the Y axis without inverting the X as well?

Thanks.

Settings Advanced, I believe. It's been too long.
