Well it would have been ideal to play them in this order Dig 1, Dig 2 and then Heist as they are in that order canonically speaking story wise, however it doesn't matter at this point, just play which ever you're "digging".

So I might as well play Heist. Dig 2 filled in a lot of the story from 1 as it is, but 2 is so good I want to try 1 too.

Dig 1 isn't nearly as good as Dig 2, but I enjoy playing it some from time to time. (It's worth noting that I didn't like it at all until I played Dig 2 when it came out.) The first game has a bit more of a puzzle aspect to it since you have to be careful to not dig yourself into a hole for most of the game.

I’ll give it a whirl since it sounds different enough to be fun in its own way.

You should totally play SWD1 first, it really is fantastic. If you play the 2nd first you might not enjoy the first because of the imiprovements in the second game. Its a similar but different game anyway. You will enjoy the 2nd more as you will know the world and characters better. As soon as I completed the 1st game I started again and completed it in half the time. Let us know what you will do.

I've read your question again and see you are already playing 2. Stop playing 2 and play 1 first!

I finished Dig 2 a few months ago. Started Dig 1 recently. I can agree that Dig 1 is not nearly as good as Dig 2. However, I'm really enjoying Dig 1 because even though it's not as good, it's still good. And it's different enough with the power upgrades and the unfolding story that it's interesting.

I do wish I played Dig 1 first, because then I'd have two games I loved. Instead, I just have one game I really, really like and one game I love. :)

Having played both, I can see how it would be difficult to go from SWD2 to SWD1 because the second is more refined. :dungeonsaxe: But, I played :swdtrilobite: SWD1 first, and I still like it better. It has more memorable characters and enemies. I feel like the pacing is better in SWD1, too. Some of the rough spots in SWD1 are the best parts for me: the scarse resources, big distances between town portals, and lack of clearly defined areas. But more than anything.. :wrenchit: who decided to get rid of Rusty's steam jump ability? SWD2 doesn't quite capture the steam powered feel of the original.

dig 1..heist is a totally different game..and a boting and difficult one to me.
steam world dig is worth playing , I loved it more than part 2 although , I also loved part 2. And steam world heist is in the future, i also loved that one too, so if you love any of the 3 , you need all of them. For the lore itself its worth it. Plus they are all very very fun. I literally sat threw all 3 games till they where at 100% completion, never even turned them off(until i got the dlc then played that, recommend getting the DLC right off the bat so you dont miss any story)

I have an update to what I said:

The game kept getting better until I finished it. The graphics and sound aren't as good, but the gameplay is really nice and builds you up as much as Dig 2, just differently. Definitely a different feel to the handcrafted levels and regions of Dig 2, which have more variety and structure.
