How long did it take you to beat the gane, is the average really 7 hours?

On how long to beat, it lists Steamworld Dig 2 as 7-8 hours, I'm past that point and still have 3 doomsday machines to beat after getting the hoverboard.

Am I just bad at the game?

I think my first playthrough was around 12-14 hours, but I don't exactly remember anymore since that was back in September. I'm pretty sure it was over 10 hours. Back when Image and Form were hyping for the game to come out, they were claiming it was about ten hours.

My first playthrough took me 14:04:08, and I was definitely going full on exploration. I was wasting time filling in my maps, too. So more accurate to say closer to 12-13 hours for me. I think that it's perfectly reasonable to say around 10 hours.

With regards to the 7-8 hours, I question how many people had used maps or weren't going for 100%. I did my playthrough completely blind and went at a leisurely pace.

I did it blind and at a leisurely pace as well. I also got stuck a few times with areas and the final boss took me more than a few tries, although I got to the 4th phase of attack quickly. It was just the last attack phase that took the longest to beat.

I did it in 7h but hardly close to 100% the first time. Took me around 15+ to get 100% without cheating (but yes I did use the map)

I got to the boss in about 12 hours or so. I was certainly not speed-running and I love the sense of exploration in the game.

I wish I'd known how important that high tier armor and cog upgrade was to the boss battle because I burned my money away on other things. I'm still almost $400 shy of affording the top armor tier, and I'm not sure I can find enough leftover minerals and such to afford that.

Had a great time though. I'll probably pick up the original game at some point. :)

Most people beating it in 7 are just going straight to the end. At least 12-15 hours if you are playing the game how it was designed to be played. Its not short by ANY means.
