DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED

DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED

First time playing online
Previously I’ve only ever played Dark Souls offline on Xbox 360. I just started Remastered a few days ago and when I heard a bell ringing at Firelink Shrine, for a second I thought it was a new mechanic or enemy. Then I realized it was another player reaching the bell. This game’s atmosphere feels different with online play, it’s less lonely and oppressive.

The only problem now is that I’ve read hackers can invade and ruin your playthrough. Does anyone have recommendations for backing up saves? I’d prefer something automated over manually copying the files each time I play.

That's not possible.

There is a PvP overhaul mod by metalcrow. The use of this mod will not get you banned, it does not lock you out of cooping or invading players who don't have the mod installed and it prevents cheaters from killing bosses and NPCs when they invade. It also has some QoL features. Uses separate save files, so if you decide to remove the mod, your save file will be reverted to the time before the mod was installed. This mod is PC version only

Cheaters still find ways to invade and ruin your game, while Metal-Crow is just one man who cannot patch every issue constantly. Plus there's a lot of bugs due to mod compatibility, so your game can be ruined even by non-cheaters who simply have other mods installed.

None of it really worth the hustle. Just play normal game hollowed if you really wanna hear bells and see dumb messages scattered all over.

Any examples of other people with a different mod ruining the savefile? What compatibility bugs have you seen?

The only issue I had was the game crashing on earlier versions of the mod. In the latest versions I haven't encountered such issues

nah, the mod is pretty fine. had used it for a while.
the only compatibility problem i encountered is that it broke my online interactions when i used CE to tamper my appearance a bit so i had to restart the game and give up on making my character more fit. welp, no more negative number waist size

Do you mean you got banned for editing the character appearance?

no, totally not. i didnt get the warning and i kept seeing signs/ghosts. it even did the matchmaking. but it just kept failing every invasion/summon even before the loading screen occurs, like "target found, invading another world as a dark spirit... nope, invasion failed". all that until i quit to desktop and relaunch the game, making CE process connection obsolete. quitting to menu and merely reloading the save didn't work for me.

checked that many times, kept happening on different days.
the funny thing is that at first it worked for a while and i could use minor appearance adjustments along with the pvp overhaul mod. then at some day it like became aware of CE presence and started to botch my multiplayer connections, every of them.
removing the mod made the problem go away, but i prefer the mod over visual shenenigans, so...

idk, maybe thats a specifict CE table or specific CE version issue. nonetheless it happened
There are scripts that auto backup saves but you gotta run them everytime you run the game and close when you close the game. PVP Overhaul mod activates when you run the game in the background as a cmd screen and closes when you close the game. More convenient and has a lot of features. I have visited Anor Londo 2 times and haven’t get hacked yet since using it.
