After playing demon souls on rpcs3 I now know why...
Now I know why DS1 is the one that popularized the soulslike genre and why its that one that is always brought up in many discussions or study of cases as a masterpiece of some sort or a genre-defining game that came out of nowhere and exploded and that will be studied and talked about for years while demon souls which is pretty much almost the same game, which also came before and had all the foundations there is being swept under the carpet, demon souls is such a bad game, I finished it yesterday on rpcs3 and many of its design decisions is baffling its such a weird game that has something good hidden deep inside a huge fat blob of crap, it truly deserves the vision of a "failed project" like miyazaki originally said, Im just so happy that the dude got a second chance and a better budget to make DS1 with bandai and with the explosion of popularity it had we got the sequels, elden ring and BB and an entire subgenre of games in the making.

My take is that exclusivity of deamon souls realy hurt this game. Dark Souls is on 3 (4 with remaster) platforms and its really showing. There are ppl who own only xbox or only PC (me, for example) and dont wanna have a headache configuring emulator, so they dont play this game. Look at Deamon Souls remaster on PS5. Right now this is also a dead game. Nobody talking about it, nobody make vidia on yt about it. Maybe because everybody playing Elden Ring, but for me Deamons died to quickly.

Counterpoint, Bloodborne.

Which was riding waves of Dark Souls popularity, not like Deamons Soul, something new without established position. And yet, comparing to Dark Souls and Elden Ring, no one realy cares about Bloodborne anymore. The only case when people talking about it is when PC port rumors shows up.

Personally I didn't have much trouble with launching DeS on RPCS3 at all. I think I only had to enable white levels or something because my game was all black with only UI showing.

I played the game with 60FPS, no DoF and no motion blur mods installed and had zero issues. Honestly I was surprised how well it worked.

Only issue I encountered is that the emulator would sometimes freeze when creating savestate (easily solved by killing it and relauching).

Admittedly I do have a powerful PC, but I don't think it should be too demanding on your hardware imo.

Omg, people, you all missing a point. Im not talking about myself - hell, Im the one who played Breath of the Wild on Yuzuru. Im talking in general. Most ppl dont wanna mess with confinguring an emulator, majority of casual PC players dont even bother change setting in normal games.

I don't know what you are forming this opinion from. I don't really know how you would quantify it but the Bloodborne subreddit is still active, more than the Dark Souls sub, although the Fromsoftware sub shadows them both. From what I see it's all Elden Ring these days. Which makes sense, it's the most recent game and their best seller. I only expect so much discourse on an almost 10 year old game.

All soultubers I watch (with subs from 300k to few millions) making content about Elden Ring and Dark Souls (chalanges, lore, streams, you name it) none, and i repeat NONE made something about Deamons Souls/Bloodborne in last 9 month or more. Im not claiming that those games didint sell well. But if we talking about popularity, more important is how quick games are forgotten. Maybe not Bloodborne, but Deamon Souls ramake was extremely quickly left in shadows. People play it, and then treat it the same way like Days Gone or Horizon Zero Dawn. Put on shelf na forgot.

Idk, my take is that if you are not willing to bother with emulators and you are not sweaty enough to go with your efforts beyond "Hey, big green button, run me a game!" - the original PS3 DeS game probably won't satisfy your consumer expectations anyway and you'll be disappointed with what you get, ranting like "Demons Souls is overrated" or something. Outdated and raw, at this point it would better to stay a somewhat elitist obscure legend instead, a hidden treasure, waiting for those who are eager to do some archeologic struggle and dig for more souls. Why don't reward nerdy people a bit?

All this doesn't mean I am in any way against of idea of DeS coming to Steam for PC, but I believe it better stay as is.

Demon souls Crawled so Dark souls could walk. Dark souls is a better "souls'' game. The main challlange of Demon souls is reaching the end of the stage due to the lack of bonfires . The bosses (with the exception of Flamelurker and Old King Allant) were easy especially compared to Dark souls
