How the hell do I reach this item after pinwheel

After pinwheel boss when you go up the ladder to the to right there's a corpse with an item, I've watched a few walkthroughs and people don't seem to show you how to get it, can anyone explain.

Oh yeah I'm late game, only non optional boss I have left is Gwyn

in that case it's kinda one of those 'go down to go up' things. i wish i could remember it a bit more clearly but it's kinda near the party skeletons.
