I was minding my own business in Anor Londo, but then for some reason Gwyndolin dies, I was really confused and was frustrated because I wanted to get into the covenant. After respawning with an idol because I was stuck there, Solaire died and the Onion guy died too. Now I fear other NPCs have died too, hopefully not the ones in firelink shrine. After some digging, it looks like it was a hacker who decided to mess around with me, but that doesn't make sense. How does someone who hasn't invaded me hack my game? This honestly sucks and I'll probably never play online again because of the potential hackers

It seems like someone found Bandai Namco's loophole and started a war against the company. It's better if you play offline until this loophole is closed. A patch would come.

Also your save file is likely corrupt, hope you were backing up your progress after each session. Some say they found earlier save files on onedrive, just grab anything there and make copies as well. Good luck

save file is corrupt? as in, I can't play the game? I haven't been backing up my progress after each session, how do you do that? I started playing the game last night, also the hacker is named Socol-76, that bastard killed Gwynevere too sending Anor Londo into darkness unfortunately. But what happens when your save file is corrupt? Does it mean that you cant save the game or?

So the <visible> effects of the hacker (as you posted) were not permanent?
I would still not play forward a save file created after a hacker entered your world. Often they inject code that puts things in your inventory and you get banned, as if you cheated. Or who knows, right...? Not worth finding out days later.

If you "just started the game last night" and do not have a backup before hacker, then like the other post said, just start over. You will fly through the sections you completed before. But up to you, good luck hollow.

How does it work, people invade you, or they don't even need to invade you and ruin your play through?

How long has this been going on? Is it likely to be fixed?

Pretty sure you have to be online and human and have the area boss still alive to get invaded, BUT cheaters can make it so the invasion warning message does not appear.

I haven't played PVP online all that much honestly, but I haven't encountered cheaters myself, just lots of twinks (players with late game gear that purposefully stay at low level to get matched with low level players).

I would assume cheaters weren't all too common normally, it's just lately we have one guy going on a rampage ruining people's runs.

As when when it'll be fixed can't be said for sure, but you can back up your save periodically and avoid going online in Anor Londo since he seems to be targeting that area the most.

I've maybe gotten invaded 1 time during my 90 hours of playing this game with online and it was just some low level guy, but this time a hacker invaded. From what I've heard, this hacker (Socol-76) hangs around mainly in anor londo, so if you are playing online, be careful being in this area. I HIGHLY suggest you play offline until the hacker gets banned or something or you can just play online "safely" by backing up your save constantly. I'm suspecting this hacker will be doing this for quite some time until a patch gets made which can either take from a week or two to like a couple of months.
