REMASTERED to Prepare to Die Edition ReTexture Mod?
Is there a mod that makes Dark Souls REMASTERED look like Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition?

If yes, is it useable online?

Thanks.

Look on Nexus. There is a mod that brings back original (better) armour and weapon textures. Then you can adjust how the game looks further with a simple Reshade. All texture mods or Reshade are perfectly safe to use online.

Do you know which retextures are fine to use online? The one that I found and is considered one of the better ones changes many other things too so the author does not recommend for people to use it online.

That one is not just textures, so probably not safe as the author says. More or less any other ones are fine if it's just re-texture.

Few examples.

The original armours from PTDE: https://www.nexusmods.com/darksoulsremastered/mods/123

A major re-texture of all game:

Just sayin'

I guess this is just plain false then.

If you have a Nintendo Switch, get DS Remastered there, it's literally all the QoL features of DSR, with the og graphics. It's my favorite version of DS1 honestly.

Thanks for the advice, I didn't know that, that's interesting. I prefer to play on PC and I don't have a switch, but it's good to know there are other options.

I'm happy to report that I have installed all 3 of these mods you recommended and they are working perfectly.

I wonder, is there a ReShade that is better / more faithful to the original Dark Souls than the others, or it's all about personal preference when it comes to ReShades?

I'm Sure someone tried to make such kind of reshade preset and you'll find it on Nexus if it's there. Personally, I make my own preferred presets for games instead of downloading someone else's, so can't recommend anything to download here. Play with it yourself, it's not complicated and you'll find what you like.

I personally use this, which i think is worth a look:
https://www.nexusmods.com/darksoulsremastered/mods/312
It has some more fancy stuff, like different particles or nicer looking water.
I only use the surface and armor re-texture with the working specularity maps though. Not 1:1 like the OG, but i think it does a good job at enhancing the dank and moody atmosphere, which the original was going for.

Simple texture replacements are safe and not detectable, btw. Read each mod's description carefully, though, because some graphic overhaul mods may change more than just textures.

IMO it looks worse than the original, probably because many of the new particles were too much for the Switch to handle, so it got a bit of a graphic's downgrade and despite that it is still just running at 30FPS. The only advantage is the novelty of "Dark Souls on a handheld" though the Switch is no longer the only handheld that can claim that. DS:R runs just fine on my Steam Deck at 60FPS and even supports it's 16:10 aspect ratio.

This looks really good, the best I've seen so far. Yeah, it may even look better than the original in certain places. This combined with the texture mods mentioned above is exactly what I've wanted. Thank you.

I see there's also an optional file that restores the original DS PTDE bonfire. Amazing. I hope that is safe to use as well.

You could ask on the mod's comment page, if you want to be doubly sure. I don't know what it does, because i never downloaded that portion of the mod myself. I actually prefer the DS:R particle-effects, including the bonfires and especially the Pyromancy Flame. In the OG, it just looks like your character is holding something called "TransparentOrangeCircle_0001.PNG". In DS:R, it's an actual flame in your hand. One of the few areas, where it improved on the original.

I only played the original on X360 way back in the day, so I can't comment on how different the particles are lol. All I can say is the Switch version looks great to me, and even better than the other versions of DSR, simply because I didn't like the graphical overall of the other remasters. And yes, I am playing DSR on the Steam Deck too, it's a great game for the device :)

I have installed all the previously mentioned texture mods in this thread and also added this:

https://www.nexusmods.com/darksoulsremastered/mods/127?tab=description

I'm very satisfied with the outcome. It feels like I am not even playing Dark Souls: REMASTERED but Dark Souls: REMAKE. Lol. Thank you once again for everyone who helped.
