Once a year. Each souls game has a "return to" event though.

I was hoping to get a few runs in to collect the Lightning and Great Lightning Spear miracles, but so far I've been summoned 0 times. ;)

10-25 is fine. Weapon upgrade +5 or +0 fire/raw/magic/divine is fine too, you could probably get away with going all the way to +10 or +5 Fire/raw/magic/divine but keeping at +5 will allow you to team up with those who haven't upgraded or picked up unique equipment yet. Note, if you picked up any unique weapons, you're already +5 if you haven't upgraded them yet.

Ahh... Dammit. I completely forgot about that.
I ruined low level matchmaking for this character, I think.
I killed Patches for that Crescent Axe and I already leveled it up to +4 with the Twinkling Titanite I've found running around.

I did back up my save before upgrading the axe at least.
Is a Crescent Axe a 'unique weapon'?

anything that upgrades with twinkling/demon/dragon Titanite is unique. With the exception of Shields that upgrade with Twinkling, they go up 3 ranks with every upgrade so you'd be safe upgrading the dragon crest or crest shields to +1 and catch everyone but +2 should be fine as it will catch others who have at least +1 standard weapons/shields

Got it.
So anyone who lucks into a random Black Knight weapon in the first zone is immediately elevated to +5 for the purpose of matchmaking.

I ended up just not leveling any of my equipment for now. I'll see if I can catch a summon with my Lv.15 character and my +0 Crescent Axe :p
