Anyone else get really bad anxiety from the basilisks?
I'm literally too afraid to ever go back to the Depths or the Great Hollow at this point

In the depths they are in specific locations that are manageable. Great Hollow is as well, but it is difficult to figure out when you are juggling four goal at once.

In the depths pull the first one, determine the quickest way to kill them. It only takes a hit or two. The trick is their fog curse disappears when they die, not fades like normal. Backing away when they draw in their big breath and shooting arrows/spells. They cannot move one they decide to kill you. Alternately, if your build supports it, run forward and OHK or 2HK. Fog is gone.

Good Luck

I haven't explored the Great Hollow, but I didn't find the ones in the Depths a problem at all. There is plenty of room to move out of the way of the cloud they release, and they die quite easily. I didn't even come close to being cursed when I was fighting them.

I know how to kill and avoid them, I just find them horribly freaky

If it's your first time playing, it's understandable. There is a ring in new londo ruins that greatly increases your resistance to curse, having 10 soft humanities also helps, anyway, after you learn how to deal with them, they are no longer a problem.
That's not the problem, they just genuinely irk me. Like in the way spiders might terrify someone.

For the most part, you can avoid them. Also bows at a distance reduces the terror. Mostly works for me and spiders. Shoot them in the eye, by the way. Works great.

I heard that before but never seen a picture that good.
Now they look even creepier!!:praisesun:
Sprinting around like a madman is the only viable strategy to fighting basilisks.

Don't stay still long enough to get cursed, and rush them aggressively to prevent the spread of said curse.

You are not alone, my friend. Currently doing a walkthrough of the game, and I was dreading dealing with those bastards while I was in the depths.
Are you 6 years old?

Having just started playing through the Great Hollow, I can now see how basilisks are a much bigger pain to deal with.

In the Depths they were easy, but they are a lot more challenging in the Great Hollow.

I didn't much like the spider sisters. Although I always join her crew.

I think their giant fake googly eyes are cute! They're like sock puppets with terrible, terrible breath!

The one thing I don't like about them is bad hitboxes on their inflated throats when they're preparing to breath. Many times I've watched my weapon go right through the throat pouch without hurting them, which is annoying when it's such a clear and inviting target!

One thing people seldom mention about fighting them is that simply having a couple of humanity gives you a MASSIVE curse resistance boost. The first three humanity are +30 curse resistance, which will double your base if you're not wearing anti-curse armor. Imo they are one of the easiest enemies in the game once you know that tidbit.

And humanity is very easy to farm from the rats right nearby in the Depths!

Also, if you can get to the Great Hollow then you can get to the Crimson Set, which offers excellent resistance to curse if one is worried about dealing with the Great Hollow ones.
