High level, farm the knights leading to Lord Gwynn
Mid level, Anor Londo giant knights leading to S&O
Low level, anywhere you can make a run somewhere and not die
The great thing about DS:R is you don't lose stuff. But, getting souls back after a death is can be a real bummer. So any good soul runs mean you can get through the run without losing more. Just don't try a place where you consistently die.

why do all you guys want us to do Jedi-mind-tricks to figure out what you need?
Can be useful to fund money for the male merchants.
Killing Forest hunter NPCs via "gravity method" is also pretty good.It pays back the 20k cost investment fast.
But the best place is IF you have strong magic or fire dmg AOE is the phalanxes in the painted word ideally with mimic helmet so you gain more souls.
Fire tempest is very useful.
With strong dmg you can also overkill them for even more souls.
I do not recommend grinding on NG as NG+ will increase soul gains by 2-5x but time to kill them will only slightly increase.
