Am I supposed to be in demon ruins right now?

It's my first ever playthrough of this game, no ng+. I killed the spider lady and rang the bell in quelags domain, I then went further and reached Hell itself, the "Demon ruins". I barely was able to kill ceasless discharge, in fact, I had to cheese it in order to finish him I could kill him normally but it would one hit me to death everytime lol. I have progressed a bit too much in there and noticed that some of the common enemies in there are actually previous bosses. It's very difficult for me to fight and go around there and I just have a feeling I don't think I should have gone there after the spider boss and the bell and had to actually go back up. I can go back up, it would just take a bit of tries but I can get back up, if that's what I actually have to do right now.

The Demon Ruins are a dead end for now, you need to go back. Don't forget to activate the hidden bonfire next to the Fair Lady ( near Spider boss). You'll need to come back here later in your playthrough.
Have you watched the cut scene after ringing the bell and seen the big gate of a fortress opens ? There you go to progress the main route.

ohh yes I saw that cutscene but my curiosity made me go further and check out the area after the spider lady and got distracted. Thank you. I shall head back
