Boss needs to be alive if using normal summoning rules
Others can offer more help as I don't summon or support invaders
Good Luck
First, you haven't shared with us what you and your friend have already tried to do.
Secondly, there are some obstacles/rules you need to follow in order to play together.
- Make sure you are both online.
- Try setting a password (for you and your friend) in the network settings, as from that point on the level/gear requirements no longer matter.
- To help your friend, you will need an item called the White Soapstone Sign - write the sign on the ground so your friend can summon you as a white phantom.
- Your friend's character must be in human form... meaning he must use a human effigy and then burn it at the stake to reverse the hollowing.
* Note: After defeating the boss, the owner of the world will not be able to see any white signs in this location (the exception is the NPC sign leading to the DLC, but that's another story).
* Note: There is another version of the White Soapstone Sign. It is called the Red Soapstone Sign - used to summon the Dark Spirit; general purpose - duels/PvP. But it can also be used as a guide since there are no restrictions related to the zone boss.
* Note: Once your character becomes human (a human effigy was used on the bonfire), if the location boss is alive, you always risk being invaded by the Dark Spirit, be careful.
This is not the first time we have seen this, so we believe it may be true.
In the worst case scenario, you and/or your friend will have to open TCP/UDP ports, but this can be a difficult task, especially if you have never done it before. Since opening the wrong ports/opening ports in general always carries a potential risk of vulnerability.
Anyway, we hope you and your friend can find a solution. Good luck!
