Are keyboard+mouse controls good in this game?
Many years ago I bought DS1 (before remaster) and controls with mouse and keyboard were really bad. I just stopped playing but now I am thinking to try dark souls again but only if remastered version fixed KB+M controls.

The controls in DSR are definitely better than in DS1 or DS2 (both versions)

I think you're referring to prepare to die edition? If so, yes, the controls are much better.
Thanks guys.

You should have, and still can, install DSFix and DSMouseFix community patches that make the original DS1 (for PC called PTDE as mentioned...) playable. Installing these absolutely saved the game for me and many years of lost gaming time, the game is indeed that good if you rise to the challenge.

AND you can easily install all kinds of great mods for PTDE, many people look really hard for a copy of that game, it is not sold anymore. DS1 never looked better when modded.

RE: DS Remaster (DSR) it is playable with KBM, but note, the game was created for console and the PC port is not terrific, but playable.

IMHO: if you own PTDE already play that again after reading\learning how to mod it. If you can't be arsed to do that, buy DSR, it certainly is worth it when on sale.

they're better than in the rest of the dark souls series overall but DS2 comes close
however this is the only dark souls game with keyboard prompts, all the other games you'll get controller prompts even when using a keyboard
anyways the games are perfectly playable with mouse and keyboard but it does feel a bit awkward at first, it's not hard to get used to and they can feel pretty good with mouse and keyboard after some time

basically yeah they're playable, might feel weird at first but once you're used to it, it controls pretty well

Changing from control to keyboard + mouse was the best thing I did in the souls, to my liking, I come from playing pure shooters, it is a thousand times more comfortable for me to use the Shift + right mouse to parry and also I didn't get used to playing with the claw on controls so tip for the keyboard:ily:

Switched from M&K to controller just for this game! Didn't regret twice.

Only regretted once, when through inexperience I fumbled with the controller and beat up Andre. Turned him aggressive so I decided to start a new playthrough.

(not knowing a second blacksmith and forgiveness exist)

The KBM control in the remastered version are about as good as those in Dark Souls 3 or Elden Ring. The old "prepare to die" edition was absolutely horrible though with KBM.

You definitely don't need any mods, special hardware etc. to play DS1 Remastered with KBM.

Yes, as mentioned and linked until the community patches are installed. OP owns PTDE, so they have a choice here to play the original, which some people are paying $hundred$ to have in their library.

And I don't think anyone said to do that, besides, real possibility of getting a ban with DSR.

Yes, the OP got the PTDE edition and he consideres getting the remastered one. I said that KBM was horrible in PTDE and that it's fine in remastered. I also said that you don't need any mods etc in remastered.

I didn't attack your posting about installing a bunch of mods and "inofficial patches" in the PTDE, so.... what's your point exactly?

I absolutely agree with you that installing mods is a good way of getting banned in fromsoft games if you use them in online mode (that's why I mentioned that you don't need mods in D1R).
