This vs. Prepare to die edition
Makes it sense to buy it also?
Are the controls (KBM) better?
What are the real differences?
TIA

The Remastered has the following:
Pros:
-PvP and summoning.
-Messages.
-updated textures.
-and in my opinion; less buggy, but a lot would disagree because they always hate on remasters for no reason.
-way cheaper.

Cons:
-lighting looks worse.
-cutscenes look worse.

PTDE has no online play whatsoever which automatically means you should purchase the Remaster. Wait for a sale though. It goes 50% off. It was just on sale less than a month ago though so it might be awhile till it does. Maybe check G2A and see if they have any keys for $20 or less.

Edit: I play on Deck and all I know is PTDE has no controller support. Pretty sure mouse and keyboard works just as well on PTDE as it does on the Remaster though.

Thanks for the response.👍 So no change to controls, not good and I totally don't care about online services. But well, it would stay on my wishlist.😊

I’m just assuming of course. I don’t actually know. Have a good day 👋🏻
+ 60 fps and blighttown doesnt run poorly in remaster.

If you are talking about purchasing for PC, remaster is superior for sure.

regarding KBM:
I absolutely hated KBM in the prepare to die edition; I played about one hour and went on to Dark Souls 3.

The remastered version got a way better KBM feeling to it; not everything is the same, but it's basically like in Dark Souls 3.

I have Dark Souls, the original on console which supported controller. Pretty much your only console option back then ('11). I have PtDE on PC; I am not certain why anyone would think that PtDE doesn't support controllers because it most certainly does. I have never used KB/M on any Dark Souls games, PC or console.

That said, if OP doesn't care about online features, and is content to be at 30FPS then PtDE is cool. DS:R provides 60FPS, another bonfire, as well as several welcomed quality of life UI fixes. DS:R isn't a bad choice.

Good Luck

also prepare to die edition costs around 400 USD
Phantom Limb Nov 6, 2024 @ 6:32am
Pick this one. It might look worse in some places, but overall it is a big improvement compared to ptde.

I will pick this probably when it's on sale. So I guess, this winter.
But honestly, it's quite ashaming that FROM sells this game 3 times, instead of upgrading the original game for free. Or am I wrong?

This is just wrong information. [edit]

PTDE is not for sale since Remaster came out. And yes, people play it online but not on official server. There are ways.

Also PTDE is a console port, you could only use a controller on release. Community of modders made PC KBM happen, not FromSoft\Bandai.

Original PTDE player, yes, it should have been a free upgrade after the state PC port released in, only modders saved the game. FS\Bandai should have been embarrassed.

But PTDE owners had 50% off Remastered, and that stacked on occasional sale price, so I got DSR for $9.99...

The shop didn't show any discount for me, as an PTDE owner.🤨
It shows 39,99 €.🤔
For 9,99 € or $ I will grab it, fore sure.😁

You missed the opportunity for 50% off sales buff, they announced that being shut down a few years ago, but months ahead of time, but yes, many still whinge about that being shut down. ¯\(°_o)/¯

too many posting in that thread 50% off "indefinitely", they were WRONG.

So, then I will just sit and wait for the sale. 20 € is my self-proclaimed limit.

I think it was only ever 50% off once in 6+ years (I got lucky waiting to use my PTDE 'buff'...) but stick to your limit, otherwise it ain't no "limit"...
