DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED

DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED

What Souls to play after beating DS1R?
I’m very close to beating DS1 (doing some DLC and coils runs before going to Gwyn now). Maybe I’ll even do another play through immediately after cause I fell in love with that game. This is not my first Souls game but the first one that I could understand. I’ve tried DS3 on Xbox and Bloodborne on PS long time ago, haven’t figured out how to play them and dropped. Now I want to continue to play Miyazaki san games but I'm having trouble to choose what game to play next. All have pros and cons.

DS2 pros: Next installment in the series after DS1. Can buy it very cheap on keys trade market.
DS2 cons: Most people do not recommend to play it at all or only after beating all Souls games.

DS3 cons: Probably most highly rated Souls game.
DS3 pros: A little more expensive than DS2 on keys trade market but not that much to care about it.

Bloodborne pros: Chronologically this is next Miyazaki game after DS1 (I suppose he didn’t make DS2 himself). Can buy used disc pretty cheap in my town (i have PS5).
Bloodborne cons: Only that I prefer playing on PC than PS.

Elden Ring pros: It’s on sale in Steam now and sales for Souls games are very rare.
Elden Ring cons: I’m not a fan of Open world games although I could make exception for Elden. Also this is longest souls game from all.

Also there are Sekiro and Demons Souls remake of course but I'm not even considering going through them right now cause they’re as dissimilar to DS1 as possible (maybe I’m mistaken).

What do you advise to play next?
P.S. Praise the Sun! \[T]/

Demons Souls is quite similiar to DS1R and highly recommended.

I would advise to play the original PS3 version instead of the remake for a more dreamlike atmosphere if it is possible (PC emulation capabilities is a miracle). The remake experience is still good too but it is kinda diminished in comparison.

Demon's Souls was published by Sony. It is a hub style game, exactly like DS2 is.

DS3 is arcade style combat. At least it is compared to when it came out.

When you beat Lord Gwyn you go immediately to NG+
More spoilage in case you don't care, but if you did, then two spoilers let you choose. Sort of
As in poof, you are back in the cell and getting the key dropped to you. NG+ is harder (initially) because it isn't balanced for the player but for the mobs. NG++ is somewhat unbalanced but by the end of any of them you should be kicking butt and taking names.

Interesting, didn’t expect Demon Souls is available on PC in any way. I don’t think similarity is main factor, just want to play souls games in order that don’t ruin experience.

So best option is DS2/Demon Souls next and DS3 after? How about Bloodborne?

Thx for advices for NG. Yep, I’ve already had to google that all other staff in DS1 must be done before going to Lord Gwyn. Also after missing some NPC and quests I was forced to search how to get into DLC. I suppose it usual things to search that kind of staff in Souls.

Nothing. Play DS1 again. Get all achievements, do challenge runs, do pvp, immerse yourself into the world and the story.

Btw, you are right. Those are the only pros of DS2.

Many people would suggest to skip DS2 altogether. Not like it is that bad, but it feels somewhat off, like a soulslike fanfiction game. You may play Lies of P or Lords of the Fallen instead as well.

I suggest Demon Souls and then DS3, if my personal opinion means anything at all.
Play ds2, it's a fun game on its own rules - if possible avoid schooler and get vanilla

Good point, I have not yet received all I want from DS1.

All opinions matter, thank you

For some reason on third party platforms schooler key is much cheaper. Maybe I’l wait for steam sale on it then.
While Dark Souls II may be the worst of the Dark Souls, it's still a fantastic game, they just tried different things, instead of copy pasting the first game

My friend told me to play Elden Ring right after Dark Souls Remastered, because in his opinion you'd have the best feel for Elden Rings gameplay at that point

My advice; try Salt and Sanctuary, it's like Dark Souls, but as a 2D Metroidvania
Demon souls on RPCS3 emulator game need some tweaks so good idea to check a video about settings to use.

With strong PC can even do 4k 60fps.

Demon souls have many similarities with Dark souls 1.

For instance stamina and vitality are 100% the same values in Demon souls and Dark souls 1.

It has less content and some unique features related to white and black word events.

Demon souls have a very very complex weapon upgarding system so best to use wikidot.

Most Demon souls bossfights have certain rules which you need to figure out.

The original swamp map from 2009 the valley of defiliment.

Each souls game has its own swamp map.......

Dark souls 2 is also slower paced but uses a different engine than other souls game so it"feels" different.

It has many innovation most content(length, weapon, spell count) among the soul games but also the least polish.

Many Non DLC boss fight are a joke.
I maneged to kill many on my first try.

In both Demon souls and Dark souls 2 area mobs themselves are usually harder and the boss is easier.

And ganks are very common.

Both Dark souls 1,2 and Demon souls can be done in non Linear fashion.

Bloodborne,Dark souls 3 and Elden ring use the"faster paced combat"Unlike DES,DS1,DS2.

Faster paced combat also means much cheaper dodge cost and more reaction based.

Areas tend to be slightly easier but bosses harder.

Dark souls 3 is a love letter to Dark souls 1 and even many NPCs carry over from DS1.

Dark souls 3 is very linear.

Sekiro is very fast paced and its combat system is closer to recent Jedi games on very hard difficulty.

Unlike souls game it has much more focus on deflections and other defensive counter measures versus dodging.

It has a masterfully crafted combat system with barely any RPG elements.

+you can steath kill most enemies.

There are no summons, increasing stats(dmg, health) are primary done by killing main and sub bosses.

Many non combat game mechanics are similar to the souls series.
Eg.Bonfires,Estus flask, resting respawns basic foes etc.(called differently ofc).

I can easily recommend Sekiro.

If you have a Playstation 5 you can get Demon souls remake and or Bloodborne.

That said DESR is 95% the same game as the PS3 version but with much better quality of life, better looking attack animations(but same frame/timing data)and looks better then ER.

Be warned even on PS5 Bloodborne is only 30fps.....

It doesn't matter. They are all good games. Everyone has their opinions on what is good or bad but each game has its fans. Play whatever looks cool to you and doesn't hurt your wallet.

Even on my GTX 1660 it can do 60fps 1080p almost all the time.(after shaders are cached).

(emulator are more resource intensive).

But if you have a weaker PC you can likely use 720p 30fps which was the PS3 which often dropped frames.

With strong PC can even do 4k 60fps.

You can also use many nexus mods for the game too.(it is commonly emulated PS+ game with many mods).

Demon souls have many similarities with Dark souls 1.

Stamina regen speed is the same too.(afaik it is 45 per second in DES,DS1,DS3,ER).

It has less content and some unique features related to white and black word events.

Fun fact:

Early game dagger wielding enemies have that 6 hit combo frenzy attack.

It is actually first used by the Dregling from Demon souls then Hollows from DS1 then Hollow Soldiers in DS2,forgot who from DS3.

In Dark souls 2 only you lack I-frames when going through fog walls.....

In Dark souls 2 bosses being multiple foes put together is also common.

Dark souls 2 DLC are good including bosses.

Both Dark souls 1,2 and Demon souls can be done in non Linear fashion.

Dark souls 2 learn agility breakpoints so you know how much I-frames you have.
But 105 agil is same I-frames as DS1 fast roll.

actually i suggest you to unsubscribe from this discussion and stop reading it altogether, lest you get thoroughly spoiled on everything before you even decide what to play next. what the souls community loves the most is to feed their own digested souls experience to anyone willing to listen, exactly like Rick feeds Morty with the digested food in that one episode

do you really need to know what lies ahead instead of experiencing it yourself in the first place?

just play anything, they are all good games with their own ups and downs after all

In my opinion, DS1 is the only one worth playing. This game is great, but also great on accident. Some people complain about the late game being rushed, but that was secretly a good thing. This game is almost too long, but because the end is so quick, it's just the right length. Right as the game starts to get old and boring, you beat it. Perfect.

Now compare that to DS3, where I have only beat it twice in my life. I can never finish it, because it's way too long, and boredom sets in. Longer is not better. It's a fine game, but it overstays its welcome, and so I'm never finishing it, never replaying it, etc.

Can't comment on Elden Ring, because it's on open world game, and I assume that means it is ridiculously long, which means it's going to have even worse problems than DS3.
