Is bannable to use Painted Worlds mod on Dark Souls Remastered?

I recently found the painted worlds mod wich allows you to play co-op without the usual matchmaking. Is this bannable?

Others claim some work, but anything that touches game files have been banned.

Is that mod for PTDE maybe? You can mod the hell out of that version, and why it is in demand and willing to pay hundreds for it.
