I am sick of running back to the gargoyle.
Is this how is it supposed to happen? Run 5 minutes to a boss to maybe learn enough of the fight to beat it the next time?

I've done the run to the church so many times, I died some, then I had to use some flasks other times, then a new enemy spawned that seemed like a robot shooting missiles, just to go to the roof and not even see the boss charging me because the screen was showing the wall behind me and couldn't see anything.

And why on earth is a spear skeleton blocking the way forward, what placement is this? It's just there to annoy you. The game annoys you to death, it wouldn't be half as "hard" without wearing you down running around.

And of course there is input reading, don't you dare use a flask, everything around will charge you even though they wouldn't attack at all a minute before to give you an opening to attack. And they won't stop attacking because who needs stamina except the player. And of course you can't go around it, everything is placed in a tiny corridor with no room to manouver.

I must've died 200 times to learn to parry and beat the black knights, now I have to run 200 times to the roof to figure out how to even hit the damn gargoyle, because I somehow don't hit its tail even if it shows I did.

Of course I asked for a refund but they won't refund the game because I've been dying for almost 7 hours and that's good enough for them.

How can people possibly say this game is easier than Nioh, at least in Nioh you had good control of the character, it was fast and you didn't waste time running around obstacles specifically made to piss you off by sadist developers.

What do I do? Do I have to multiplayer my way around? Because at this point this seems to be the only way I can possibly move forward without ripping my hair off.

Thanks for reading.

which gargoyle? try using YT to see tactics to help you
teteh5 Sep 11, 2023 @ 3:35am
get gud .

Well... You've gotten gud at the Black Knights.
You can summon NPCs (not other Players, there's a difference) at the door on the roof if you're in human form.
If that is not to your liking, you can try to upgrade your weapon and use some of your items for elemental damage.
And you can lighten your weight for a better roll.
Try to stay behind the Gargoyle and only strike when you're confident you can land the attack and outroll any incoming attack.
This game wants you to play methodical and get gud by learning timings and placements.
Try to parry everything that has a weapon.
Oh, and you could take the elevator from Firelink to the church, that way is much shorter.
Or you run from Andre's Bonfire, this would be the shortest way back.

ok I suggest you run the whole way from the Undead Burg with rats and stuff? that is the suboptimal way, you better go left as you come from the big gate, and instead of going into the Parish (building) itself, take a turn to the ladder to the tower with bonfire and a blacksmith, so that your way won't be too long. secondly, there is no input reading in this game whatsoever except maybe the dlc bosses, the enemies are just aggressive and... smart? they use shields, they counterattack, they even can chug esthus as you do. so you must be smarter, learn when to attack, try out various weapons and shields, and most of all - BE PATIENT, at this stage of game you can't really rush or even run through all the enemies, play slow. you will beat this game in no time if you take your time :)

oh and you maybe should NOT parry everything that has a weapon, especially when there are many enemies at once, you better master backstabs tho, it helps against mobs immensely and is much more easily done than parrying, just strafe while locked on

Sorry, I meant he should at least try it because it helps on the way

That's the best advice with the game

Right, there is an elevator that will help me skip all the bridge stuff. I don't know where Andre's bonfire is. I guess that passage east of the church that goes to some woods, because I don't remember any other way from and to the church.

Thanks, that means I only have to avoid the ghouls. One of which HAS TO move right in the middle of the door just before I pass through.

I guess I'll redownload the game then. Yes, I rage uninstalled and asked for a refund.

Have you found the bonfire by the blacksmith? Its pretty close to the Gargoyles. I will assume that you're mistaking the 3 balder knights by the front entrance to the church with black knights. There is a side entrance thats only being "guarded" by 3 common hollows and opposite to that entrance is a pathway to said bonfire. Find it if you haven't yet.

The blacksmith lets you upgrade your equipment (Most importantly your weapon) up to +5 for now. If you are lacking the materials you can either buy them from him or farm them on said hollows and balder knights

And i sure hope the game has input reading. You have to earn your time to heal as much as you have to earn your time to attack. Time and patience will teach you both. Thats dark souls for you. I personally don't remember seeing the problem in anything but whats holding my controller. That attitude probably served me better than "Le bad game design"

Don't rely on outside help too much especially this early on. Its gonna ruin your first playthrough. Besides the fact that beating a boss on your own thats been tormenting you for a while is the best part of this game

which big gate? the ones before and after the pig boss? there is a door I can't open before it on the left, and there is no tower after it, just the church.

I haven't met any blacksmith, just a dude in a balcony. Do I have to go through the red dragon?

And there's also a door on the way to the first black knight that doesn't open from my side, but couldn't find a way to open it either and I explored everything in the walls.

I mean the one black knight where a corpse is before the minotaur, and a black knight alone in a tower after killing some rats and climbing a ladder. One gave me a titanite shard and one a sword I need 30 levels to even use properly.

Hmm, I do remember a path now towards the other side of the first floor of the church but I didn't explore further. Maybe that's the way.

I can't play it like that, I already rage quit and I googled for help anyway for builds and black knights. I only go blind up to a point, then I don't mind looking for tips or even cheese. Even if I wanted to try a boss until I manage to beat it, I am not going to go through everything I already beat just to get that chance. That's just stupid to me.

Ok nevermind those are the black knights. That knight staring at the sun offers you help. If you accept it you can summon him shortly before the fight if you are in human form. You should turn the game to offline mode though. Being online and in human form lets others invade you. And many make it a habit of optimising low level characters just to keep killing beginners. You can tell if the knight is available for summoning if you have the white sign soapstone in your inventory if i recall correctly.

You don't have to fight the Bell Gargoyles ASAP, there's nothing behind them, except for the bell which you can ring MUCH later. Just go explore elsewhere (e.g. Darkroot Garden, Lower Undead Burg etc) and get stronger. The game is nonlinear, you don't have to keep smashing your head against a wall.

Also, Gold Pine Resin completely trivializes the fight. Just upgrade your weapon like 3 times at the blacksmith, then apply Gold Pine Resin and you 5 shot each of the gargoyles. You can grab 3x Gold Pine Resin from a chest in the previous area (Upper Undead Burg).

OP hasn't explored enough. A bon fire is like 1 minute away from the gargoyles. This is why you explore.
niralamart000 Sep 11, 2023 @ 1:42pm
bro i went back to the asylum and beat the stray demon butt naked and armed with nothing but a claymore. heck get the bastard sword from blacksmith, it scales better. just strip naked and whip your thing at the gargoyles, they ain't worth crack.
niralamart000 Sep 11, 2023 @ 1:44pm
op go look up level 1 run at pinwheel and get his right of kindling, idk what it really is but it basically increases your estus count
