Remaster vs Prepare to Die Edition.
Most of the comments say PtDE is all you need. However it took me a long time to get DSFix going with PtDE. Once I did of course, it was much better.

However whe I say it took a long time to get DSFix going, I mean months of trying to install it. I woudl try, fail, give up. Come back later because Dark Souls is supposed to be amazing, try again, and fail again. Also PtDE was incredibly dark, and I had to fix the lighting. Plus DSMouseFix.

Anyway there are quite a few videos and images showing the graphical differences between Remasted and PtDE. Since the community is still complaining of no differences between PtDE and Remastered, well what gives. I wondered if the Remastered Edtions that were supposed to look better were console versions.

However no. Here is the best PC version comparison. It's 18:00 minutes long, but I am glad I took the time to watch it all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4OUu_9ztLQ&t=934s

Sorry folks but it clearly shows that the remastered version is better. It also clearly states what everyone feels, that the Remstered version does not go far enough.

However for me, I would not even bother to re-install PtDE and fight to get DSFix reinstalled. It wasn't that difficult to do, once you found the right link explaining how to do it. Just no need for that anymore, when you consider Remastered is mostly fixed.

Funny thing is, I noticed Remstered looked better in a video I was watching of it. Alyce Rocha's playthrough. Undead Burg already looked clearer even on Youtube, than I remember PtDE.

Installing DsFix only requires copy & paste and edit a few simple lines in the.ini file, how did it even take you months? If you can read English, it shouldn't even take you longer than 1 hour.

DS PTDE with DsFix is indeed inferior than Ds Remastered graphical and performance-wise, people are only lying themselves if they say otherwise. The team that did the remastered version certainly did go through the game codings and make sure that the game ultilize more CPU and GPU power. However, if you're only interested in the PvE aspect of the game then this is a bad buy. $20 for a little performance improvement and barely noticeable graphical changes just doesn't seem worth it for me.

DSFix was OK to install once you found the right instructions. I can't remember the process, so I can't comment further.

Agreed about the price. £17.50 is a bit steep price. When Remastered is on sale, if the 50% price drop still applies on top of sale price, then maybe. Maybe then.

It's still very tempting though even at this price, for PvE. Although it's easy to forget how painful DS can be. ... I ain't never going to play PvP, because of cheaters/hackers. That's my defualt position on that.

And cancerious builds, flipping rings, 1 hit kill dark magic, backstab fishers. Stuff like that

This... perfectly sums up the DS PVP scene. 70% backstab fishers, 20% gank squads, and 10% cancerous one shot dark magic builds
Only 69% backstab fishers. There are some honorable fencers.

Well those description are missing all those people constantly whinning about it.
For ptde to be equal besides dsfix, you would also need dscm working otherwise you could have numerous people in an area laying down summon signs and having zero show up due to how the original handled matchmaking and netcode.

Also besides performance and graphics, password summoning is a thing dsfix does not add.

DSFix is also faurly buggy when it comes to physics. DS: Re is better.
It does seem like there is quite a bit better with Remastered. Just that everyone wishes it was more; me included.

Even though I am waiting for a good sale before I buy it, it's till tempting now. Usually I wait for games to get fixed before I buy them. However I would be surprised if Remastered gets fixed, given DS1 track record. Maybe though.

I remember falling off a branch in Blighttown with PtDE. I hope that bug is fixed.
I think the fact that they made the controls labelled for PC makes a good change too.

Playing by controller prompts was exceptionally hard work. It meant lots of checking the controls on websites. It meant many times getting lost in the menus.

Also because it took me ages to get DSFix going, I forgot all the tutorial. Playig remastered could be quite different.

I personally prefer the Remaster over the PTDE+Dsfix. Native 60 fps are that much of a deal breaker for me.
Yeah I played the DSfix PTD, and I'd still suggest remastered over that.

Multi item usage. Swapping covenants at the bonfire. No phasing through the ground if I try to slide down a ladder in blight town. Better control options if you want them.

(major physics glitches in blight town sorted? ues. 'Flew off a branch for no seeming reason', no that's pure 100% authentic darksouls regardless of what version).

Keep an eye out for anyone crying over the weapon matchmaking. Even if they pretend "It's for co-op alts!" you know they just miss invading fresh faced newbies with maxed out weapons in undead burg.
