Everyone seems to love Solaire, and I usually like the idea of Paladin type characters in fantasy rpg's, but Solaire is kind of pathetic. I know that he is supposed to be the underdog type character that people want to root for, but I don't really care for that hard-working underdog trope in a fantasy game.
Here's how I found out about Solaire only having 14 faith: https://twitter.com/king_bore_haha/status/1431416444982480899?s=20&t=vEjrG6LDF8RnVUstB269vQ
you can summon him to help with the gaping maw dragon and he just gets crushed by it. he helps, as a distraction, but you still need to be able to DPS that thing down before it kills him.
compare him to maneater mildred, who just tanks Quelaag as an absolute meatshield, despite being clad in nothing but a burlap bikini or witch beatrice who totally nukes whatever she shoots at. . when she actually decides to shoot at it. .
meanwhile, yeah, the fanboism for Solaire is real.
check out "Souls Logic" on VLDL YT channel, and Ben just goes full on hyperfan mode when Solaire appears to help him with a boss and then they go in and Solaire just 1 shots the boss, while Ben is still trying to figure out how to get in position and that never actually happens in the actual game. . .(yes, i know they are taking artistic licence there) , so yeah, people seem to think Solaire is a badass, but he's really a confused and lost soul. he turned into an undead, just like you and now he's searching for his own "personal sun", whatever that means. .
you have to do a bunch of roundabout stuff, requiring intimate knowledge of the game and a bit of sequence breaking just to "save" solaire at the end of the game. . .
I always thought it was ridiculous and weird that you had to join the Chaos Servant covenant and get to Rank 2 just to save Solaire (or apparently kill the Sunlight Bug with poison mist or toxic mist through that big door, but I bet you that means you lose out on that Sunlight Maggot (helmet thing) if you kill it that way.
the information is kind of confusing. I opened the shorcut, got the maggot, killed all 9 bugs and then the wiki says he should appear there, but he didn't appear there
and i'm running around wondering if i should go ahead and fight the firesage or not because they said if you go in there before doing the maggot then you screw it up. . .but then another souce says as long as you got the maggot you are okay, so i killed the firesage and the centipede and went back to the shortcut and he was there looking depressed. . yay(?).. .i think i did it right.
then the wiki says he should appear beside the bonfire AFTER the centipede demon but i go there and he's not there. he's still at the shortcut.
now, they say that if i did it wrong, he would have had the maggot on his head and he would be hostile, so i guess i did it right.
I dunno what i "get" for it though, except i can summon him to help with the endboss?
as for the VLDL video, that's short for "Viva La Dirt League" channel and they do live action video game parodies .
there's a 20 episode series called "souls logic" parodying dark souls and then they also did Red Dead and PubG nd then have a series called "epic npc man" about self aware npcs in a VR MMORPG are currently doing dead by daylight and they also did some other series called "bored" that was about the employees of a computer and electronics store.
Oh cool. Thanks for explaining that. I'll make sure to check that channel and those parodies out. Btw I normally would have typed out a longer reply but it's past 2am for me and I need to get some sleep.
But if its defending the undead parish castle rather than explicitly going after you, then perhaps it is devoted to gwyn and wants to stop anyone from ringing the bell.
Both are opposing possibilities, since gwyn did kill off the dragons, but who knows, maybe it swore loyalty or maybe it just hates the undead. Or maybe its like any animal defending its territory for no reason. I don't know though, I assumed you may have googled it before and found nothing, so it really may be up to interpretation

"this game is woke trash!"
maybe he's more like Angela from Sleepaway Camp, i dunno.
for the record, i was making a joke at certain people's expense that every time a game has some sort of glbt character in it, no matter how minor they are, like they could just be an npc vendor that barely has a backstory and someone will be on the forum crying about the "woke agenda"
its literal name is "HELLKITE WYVERN" or sometimes "bridge wyvern"
and also, it's not a dragon. a wyvern has 2 legs and 2 wings for a total of 4 limbs, while a dragon has 2 back legs, 2 front leg/arms and 2 wings for a total of 6 limbs.
unless you're trying to use dnd logic, where a wyvern has a scorpion tail and yeah, in that case, it's not a dnd wyvern.
but this is dark souls, not dungeons and dragons
