How to push a man to breaking point: that one bonfire in Sens Fortress
So the biggest brick wall of difficulty so far is definitely Sens Fortess... the only things that compare are the Depths and Capra Demon (which I consider the first truly challenging part of the game)
Now here's me, getting through Sens Fortress on around my 15th attempt, get up top, beat the giant, backtrack and bit to find the bonfire off a ledge.... what happens when I decide to walk forward, purposefully holding my right hand off of the controller as to not accidentally dodge?
Well... my character decides to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dodge of course. I even have the grain wood ring equipped so my character really went for it, lost over 20000 souls
For the first time in the game I'm genuinely mad.
My knuckles are bruised and missing skin, my eyes are sore and my housemates would prefer I don't play this game ever again. Thanks Dark Souls, I was enjoying the hell out of you but now I have to wonder if it's a good idea to keep it installed when I might suddenly want to kill myself exponentially more than I already do lol
Pretty sure I even messed up a finger joint from how much I was slamming the table saying "I did not press a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ button you piece of ♥♥♥♥ game"

Not sure what you mean here. Are you ironically calling me a "sweet summer child"? is it a dark souls reference?

Its a George rr martin reference when Jk Rowling said she found it hard to kill of characters.

Anyways, it might seem that 20k souls is a lot at the moment but in the long run it really isn't. You could farm those souls back in a matter of minutes.

If you truly enjoyed the game up to now, stick with it. You still have a ton to discover.

Just don't play the game when angry because you are more prone to mistakes that way.

I would love to... but the idea that my character could randomly roll at any moment is more than annoying. I'm already having to find loopholes for all the other issues I'm having like controller only working til i make a keyboard input, double tapping buttons all the time for no reason etc.
It's just too much stress

Yikes that sounds frustrating!

I used to have that problem often when I would 'button mash' since it seems like the game locks certain input during animations and then takes the FIRST button you press after the window opens. Slowing way down helped me out tremendously.

I have never accidentally rolled off a ledge tho, never had any accidental rolls (outside of button mashing.) Since you mentioned a keyboard input issue, have you confirmed the game isnt doing random inputs on you from a different source or something?

Yeah I disconnected my keyboard and the mouse doesn't have anything tied to a roll so I don't know how it happened :/
Also the double inputs is something that happens in menu and everything, it's something entirely different to how animations/ button inputs will queue. It's completely random, but it happens fast enough that it doesn't ruin my combat experience (as in the second input is so close to the first that it won't "queue" the action again in combat)

Yeah I went back to this one after getting most of the way through Cathedral of the Deep in DS3... I was very annoyed by how stupid a lot of that area feels mechanically and figured some experience here would help (Anor Londo especially).
Visually and theoretically I think it's amazing but in practice it's just annoying as opposed to challenging. (for me at least, having adhd and anxiety)
I feel this several fold now that I've seen the absolutely amazing design in the first half of DS1, I honestly feel like Sens Fortress is still a hell of a lot better than the damned cathedral... the one thing that got me is that random roll out of literally nowhere exactly as I found the single bonfire in the fortress. Now I have to wait until I'm not angry at the game to get back there lol
But yes.... looking forward to Anor Londo. As long as it doesn't have areas you can only get to by jumping, I shouldn't hate it as much as Cathedral of the Deep (being challenging is one thing, forcing players to use bad controls is another)

Anor londo will make the depths and sens fortress seem easy and the boss fight at the end makes some people quit the game forever.

Fist off, never worry about losing souls. The souls you get from killing bosses is plenty to get you through the game. Losing 20k is not a big deal in the end. Ofc it feels very frustrating in the moment, but that's just kind of how these games are. Some times it's better to take a break, come back a few hours later, or the next day, and have another go.

Playing while frustrated, trying to rush to get back to progress and reclaim your lost souls will usually just make you die even more. So no shame in taking a break to cool off, then trying again.

Anor Londo can be quite frustrating the first time as well, so be prepared for that. Patience will be required xD

They aren't what I would call "hard", just daunting (especially with the poison and curse in depths)
The only problem is the blades of "you fall and die now" when there are also enemies around. That is the one thing I have had any trouble with here, just when the game decides to throw me off a cliff when I'm literally above the bonfire it gets a bit stressful
Also I haven't actually found any of the bosses in this game that hard. They all have a specific trick or two that makes them hilarious pushovers, have purposefully not looked up guides cause of how easy it's been.
Having only finished Nioh I find the normal enemies and level design pretty hard here but the bosses are actually insanely easy and slow. The only boss I've had trouble with in this series was the Crystal Sage from DS3

Yeah I happened to get annoyed by a mate telling me he had skipped to the fifth season of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure before watching seasons 3 and 4... literally right before I found the bonfire. I was perfectly happy before that, but then as i looked at my one estus left and the relief hit me, knowing I was about to get to the bonfire I'd searched so long for... my character did a roll off the edge. No idea what caused it as my button pressing hand was away from the controller and my keyboard was disconnected. Grinding my face against a wall to build up callouses is one thing, when the game actively smashes my face through said wall, spits on my face and tells me it's "tough but fair" I can't help but literally ragequit
I can't help but wonder how many of these "janky" animations (enemy jump attacks borderline teleport when going up or down stairs) and controller problems are from the remaster. Too bad I could never stand this game at 30fps lol

Don't think the remaster really added that much jank, to be quite honest. But then, i played Prepare to Die for 1000+ hours and remastered only 56 so far. So i can't be sure.

But yeah, that roll has happened to me as well. Some times it feels like the game queues something and then it happens like 5-10 seconds later for some weird reason. It's weird. But also, not especially common. As for enemies and how they move, to be honest you just have to learn how it all works. The first time through the game a lot of stuff will surprise you for sure, and you just have to be quick on the uptake to minimize how many times you get smoked by the same things.

I know it's easy to explain how to deal with something when you've done everything in the game 300 times over, and it's very difficult the first time. But usually the unfair feeling stuff seems less so once you understand how to deal with it. Jank like that random roll aside ofc.

In the end i guess i'm just trying to tell you to stick with it. It's a good game even if it has some shortcommings and when you finally beat it, it feels pretty damn good :)

san's fortress
Not gonna lie, this game isn't meant for you. I'm already playing this game for the 7th time on NG ++ and if I can handle it, anyone can. Stop blaming the game and git gud.
