I've heard from a lot of people that started with the more recent From Software titles, feel that Dark Souls 1 is outdated. It's hard for me to say since it's the one that I started with, but I definitely find its lore, world building, and level design leagues ahead of any of their games that have come out since.

Dark Souls 2 has combat that can be difficult to adjust to for many, and the DLC for the game has some of the most annoying and poorly designed areas of the entire franchise. But I still enjoy it a lot, and it feels like the game with the most content especially with coupled with the DLC. I also find DS2 to be the most forgiving, as healing gems aren't limited in the way that estus flasks are. I enjoy the slow paced combat in DS2 because it's methodical and almost feels like a turn based RPG, and I also prefer health filling out slowly over time as opposed to all at once because it opens a few chances to heal in preparation for taking damage, which I find interesting.

Dark Souls 3 is probably the easiest to get into nowadays from a "how dated does the game feel to most people" perspective, but it also starts out harder than DS1 or 2. There's also a lot of references to previous Dark Souls games, which you may not appreciate as much if you haven't played the prior games (namely Dark Souls 1).

Frankly, I think you should just play them in order. You're less likely to have issues with DS1 being outdated if you don't have much to compare it to, and as an overall package I think that Dark Souls 1 is the best in the trilogy.

I'm gonna see, but I'm pretty interested in 2 and 3 now, so I might rethink it, but I think I will get one of them first.

As someone who started playing souls-likes and dark souls specifically not that long ago - i think Dark Souls 3 is probably the easiest to get into (More modernized controls, faster pace, and it is somewhat linear which i tend to enjoy in the games i play) however if you skip one and two you miss out on some important callbacks, ect. Dark souls 1 meanwhile is way slower and more clunky, however enemy design is generally easier to handle than 3 - as they have way less moves. The game does have a ton of backtracking tho - so keep that in mind, and some cheap design choices. Still a fun game overall. Haven't tried 2 yet so can't comment on that.

IMHO, it's better to buy PS 5 and Demon Souls Remake. Then, buy DSR,2,3 also for PS 5 or PS 4, idk. Without online all souls games are soulless.

You think I have money to buy PS5 a d three AAA games at same time?

Dark souls 1 is the real DS. Its story I thought to be for a standalone game, while DS2 and DS3, even though they're very good game, weren't intended to be made. Basically, you're asking if it's better start from the second or third chapter that were made to continue the story of the first, without knowing what the hell happened. So, long story short: start with DS1. Its lore is very good, the world building is a masterpiece (basically there is almost no need to teleport because everything is interconnected, while the other 2 are a way more linear) and, aside from 3 exceptions, the boss fights are never ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but they're always fair. Moreover, if you play in the correct order, you're gonna taste an evolution in the combact system, instead of facing an involution. Obviously you're not gonna find the mechanics introduced in DS2 or DS 3 playing DS1... But you're surely gonna find the DS1 mechanics in DS2 and DS3, with other added

I don't care about story too much.
I mean , the story is just addition, and I play the game for gameplay and overall epic experience.
But I also can enjoy the story, if there isn't so much of them.
I prefer learn lore from YouTube videos instead while playing

Hello DS community, I buyed elden ring 2 months ago, but I think that this isn't too much game for me because I don't like Open world schemate too much, I prefer linear fun without needing to walk 10 minutes to find next enemy location.
From what i seen from gameplay, Bloodborne seems to be the most interesting, but since it isn't on PC, then there only Dark Souls trylogy.
All of these games look cool, but idk what to pick for the start.
Dark Souls 2 or 3 seems to be interesting, but I still wanna think about it.
So, what you recommend?
Just play them in order, as intended. DS1 has the slowest combat of all the Dark Souls games but there are a few bosses and enemies that are pretty fast. Poise in Dark Souls 1, which is a buff from armor (and one specific ring) that allows you to take physical damage and magical damage (from spells/miracles/pyromancies) without getting staggered, is very strong but is not as consistent in DS2 or DS3. Dark Souls 2 does have real poise to some extent, but you can't just put on heavy armor and expect to poise tank all physical or magical damage. In DS3 real poise does not exist at all (only something called "hyper armor" exists, and you get it through using large weapon and special weapon arts). The "weapon arts" mechanic only exists in Dark Souls 3, but some unique weapons in all three Souls games do have unique attacks that only they can do.

TL;DR Play the Souls games in order, because otherwise you will just end up confused if you do them out of order, and you will have to adapt to different mechanics in each game (and please be patient with them but please especially be patient with Dark Souls 2). It's worth being patient with DS2 in the long run (don't let other people ruin your view of DS2).

Agreed but if you want to play them in "order" you start with Dark Souls Remastered (1), Dark Souls 3 and then Dark Souls 2.

Will make the "story" and your time with it more enjoyable.

In what way do you find playing DS3 before DS2 enhances the experience?

Play DS1 and 2 and skip 3 if you end up liking them. If you don't like them or like ER more than them then DS3 is fine.

Well, after all I'm not actually sure if I should play dark Souls.
I gonna say that I wasn't having too much a good fun in elden ring, so it makes me kinda disgusted to Dark Souls series.
Maybe I just should wait until they release Bloodborne on PC since I wanted that game the most

You really has us give you these (mostly) helpful answers, and then decide you're not going to play it? That's ridiculous (I had another word choice, but it probably would get me temporarily banned). You should at least try the Dark Souls games. Dark Souls games are much different than Elden Ring and they're all much easier than Elden Ring.

I won't say that I'm not gonna try it, but I'm just don't wanna wast 60$ on something that I won't gonna enjoy, again, so i have to rethink everything

Okay. I understand that. I hope you do play all of them. Even if you don't buy them all right away.
