Push to talk Stops controller input

Just need a little help. I have a foot pedal which is bound to a keyboard button for my push to talk. I have no idea on the brand or how to change the keybind of the pedal.

Obviously I'd like to use a controller for DS but every time I use the pedal for push to talk (or click any key on the keyboard) the controls switch to keyboard input and I can't move or do anything on the controller.

I don't have this issue on DS3/Elden Ring as they let you use keyboard and controller at the same time.

Any help would be appreciated.

The problem is not Souls. I just got into (and out of) DS:R. I used my Xbox compatible controller to select which saved game to load. Moved my character around. Then I switched to KB/M, which worked fine and used the controller to access the command menu and exited the game.

What is driving your KB? Is it a generic KB/M or are you using some super special KB/M?
For instance I use a Corsair with fast keys (and pretty blinky lights). It has some features that would be interesting in Call of Battlefield but, I never play those games. However, it does have some fancy control (not controller) SW. I have some variants loaded, but Souls never triggers them.

Next thing is how is Steam configured for your DS:R?
Check the config to see if there is something in there that switches command to KB/M once activated. I have no idea why they would, but it is best to check.

You might have to spend some effort via a search engine or two to find why your model KB (or KB/M) is having trouble. Don't forget to cross check with your Controller. That might be significant.

Check things out, then let us know what you find. Asking questions might find the right person that knows the fix. Sorry, that I'm not that person.

I also can't figure out a work around. My Foot Pedal program doesn't work with Mouse Buttons or the only other single key on my keyboard that doesn't stop my inputs in game so I don't have a single option to bind to the foot pedal without stopping inputs in game :(

From my experience it is a DS1 issue looking for input from certain peripherals. I just unplugged everything to play.

Not sure if it would work, but could try autohotkey as the nuclear option to rebind inputs.
