Any other games like Kings field?
Something sombre, brooding and with some quality? does anyone know anything similar on PC?

It's a bit older, though. If it has to be more recent, anything with the "Souls-like"-tag, really. If you're okay with side-scrollers, i suggest "Hollow Knight".

If it must be in first-person, then there's nothing quite like King's Field. Maybe dungeon-hacks, like "Legend of Grimrock", but they're on a grid. "Dark Messiah of Might&Magic" could be interesting too, but i think that would be too "alive"-feeling and high-fantasy. Doesn't have that FromSoft-typical interconnected level-design, though.

Thanks brother. I already have BOD and DMOMAM. I found another similar one called Stonekeep but the combat just isn't the same, bit faster paced. I like the slower style of KF.

Have you ever tried "Hexen"? It's super old by now and made with the DOOM-engine of yore. But it does share some similarities and combat still holds up and with a modern source-port, that can play it, like GZDoom, it will runs and control like butter. Though, people, who've played it find it exhausting, because it's level-design is less "interconnected" and more just a big, convoluted secret-hunt. Speaking of which, there's actually been a game made with GZDoom recently, called "Hedon", but that is way more action-oriented. It's way more DOOM-like.

There's also a spiritual-successor to Hexen, called "Graven". Still in Early-Access, though and i'm not sure, how it would compare. Looks more action-oriented as well.

Weird, that there aren't any games directly aping KF, given how it's third-person successor basically defined the last decade of gaming. I guess, there's always...Virtual Hydlide? :beatmeat:

Edit: If you haven't played it before, because of it's "black sheep"-status; Dark Souls II. It's probably the closest, the soulsbornes have gotten to King's Field. There are bosses, just taken straight outta KF, like the Old Iron King.

The problem with Hexen is that the first hub is kind of lame so people get a bad impression about the game. It gets much better after the first 5 levels or so.

From made a similar game called Eternal Ring. It's not on PC afaik but it's on PS4/PS5. It was originally a PS2 game so you could use an emulator as well.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

While obviously different in many ways, for me it is the only game that has given a gaming experience comparable to Dark Souls when I played through it a few years ago. The setting, atmosphere, exploration and minimalist story telling are all there and make the game world feel far bigger, more intriguing and cohesive than it actually is. Reaching the inverted castle felt just as magical as reaching Anor Londo for the first time.

Maybe it is because I started playing the game with zero expectations, but it certainly become one of my favorite games of all time.

I have heard that many of those who were the most eager to get their hands on Demon's Souls in the West were in fact SOTN fans who had desperately waited for years for an action RPG that would capture some of that same magic but in 3D. I'm not sure if that is true, but it would make sense to me.

While it seems like you are searching something a bit different, you don't need to spend a penny to try it out. Check out Vimm's Lair.

Arx Fatalis is pretty decent as far as first person RPGs go.

Thanks a lot guys. I already have pretty much everything you suggested, and just a note on Hexen: I can only play that game in small doses as someone else mentioned, the level design is exhausting. The levels are maze like and I spend so much time back tracking because I'm not sure of where I am supposed to go or which switch to flip, I literally hit a wall and need a break lol.

I will not give up though ✌

A game that was to Doom (2016) what Hexen was to the original Doom would be amazing.
