maybe its the weapon i use but i never have any issues with not damaging ghost in walls even if my weapon ends up clanking. personally more annoyed when they come through the ceiling/floor where they are either completely out of reach or at odd angles to hit. (especially if your weapon doesnt have a vertical swing, but lets be honest not having a vertical swing will put you at a disadvantage in many places.)
i will say there are 1 or 2 spots where the amount of ganging up the ghosts can do if you don't bait them out or kill them quickly is annoying/excessive. but there are like 3 or 4 shortcuts in the area to make up for it.
having to use a timed item to be able to hit ghost can lead to it running out at unfortunate moments, but i guess the idea there is to have you experiment with perma cursed weapons.
2) I swung my Hello Kitty backpack at it, hit the door, and it came back and gave me a black eye (Hello Kitty merc is not ethereal contra to their marketing... :C
3) Hmmm, baiting does seem to work that way, huh?
To second comment: having enemies telegraph attacks (even if they have multiple varied ones that are tightly timed) is fair. Like learning how to be able to duel a black knight without cheese strats. Took me 30-50 respawns, but I have a fighting chance now. Getting bukake'd by ghosts that hit you before they even show themselves is technically "learning" but it's the wrong kind. Being forced to run up, then run back, wait for them to leash, then hoping you didn't hit the wall because the auto lock spun you around the wrong direction isn't good.
Another gripe is that you need the "curse" to hit them... I actually ran out of curse, but was lucky to get the 1% drop of the ghost blade, so that can hit them, although, it's quite short in range... I'm hoping the 2nd haunted house is the last one.
if you put on gold serpent ring or 1 humanity you should get htem to drop from the ghost with some regularlity.
worst case the female vendor sells them.
1) Firebombs. Buy 99 firebombs from the merchant in Undeadburg (they are dirt cheap). It takes exactly 2 firebombs to kill a ghost. If there's several together, you can get all of them at the same time.
2) There are three locations in New Londo where you can pick up Transient Curse. Then the ghosts drop it often, so you should be set forever without any need to buy it. Now you also have the Ghost blade (amazing weapon btw), but firebombs still require the curse.
That's it really. Don't tange with many ghosts at the same time in small rooms. Bait them to chase you, then throw firebombs. Works at any level.
* don't use black firebombs. It still takes 2 of them to kill a ghost, and they are much more expensive than the regular ones.
@clail : I agree, but only in theory. Their look is phenomenal (From Software really does a great take on Western fantasy), their movement, creepiness -- it's all great. I just hate how it happens in the level. I think having them have such long range is dumb when the game pushes you into such tight corridors, there are very few "open areas" for you to draw them into, you have to bait them down the hallway, where they will still be able to attack you or you just break leash. And given the fact that in haunted house 2, there are 10-20 ghosts in there that will kill you in 2 seconds if you overstep just a little, it's not great. The only counter is to walk forward, walk back, hope to bait one, repeat.
The only area that felt like bad design to me was tomb of giants. But the scary atmosphere and the big jumpscare I got after the skeleton that walks on 4 legs jumped out of the darkness at me was worth it.
And I find some old wizard dude... and that's it? I can't open any doors (to turn the wheel), I can't pull the lever? So I just wasted my time killing all of these ghosts, and now what... back to get mauled by caprademon? i also found another gate near the original elevator, also locked.. lol
From Software must have been created by devs who were scarred as kids playing unfair NES games.
Fight the Capra Demon > enter the Depths, and there you'll find your first pyromancy teacher. Free him, and later talk to him at Firelink Shrine. He'll upgrade your Pyro Flame and sell some pyromancies.
Then onwards to Blighttown.
New Londo is a mid-game area. You're not meant to go there yet. Come back after you've earned the Lord Vessel.
I did end up "figuring it out", but honestly some sort of gating would have been appreciated -- the fact that I lack the proper items to get through (without killing that wizard on the roof) and the game just let me go there to a dead end is pretty lame.
I went back to capra and decided to run in a tiny circle to throw off enemy targeting, and ended up taking out capra... I think my problem before (after killing the dogs) was trying to roll too often, and not relying on the shield which completely blocks most of his attacks, giving time to get above and heal then drop down on him and then just finish him off with some regular dodge/attacks.
The castle above the blacksmith is still blocked by the giant gate.
So now going to just run past the lightning demon... although I feel like the key to the Depths should have been used sooner (couldn't find any doors in lower Burg).
Blaming the game for your lack of understanding…..Classic… Git Gud :)
