What divine weapon to use?

Starting a Sorcerer, I'm planning ahead to make her use for melee support a magic Claymore as upgraded as possible. In other plays I have wasted my titanite experimenting and upgrading stuff I later never use so I want to be economical.
Still in the plan-ahead vein, I'm trying to determine which divine weapon to use when I go into the Catacombs. As in, that weapon will probably only be used there and not likely to use it as my main thereafter.
I'm not planning to go in early, really. Astora's is always mentioned and actually in my first character it was my main weapon for a good while. Can't complain, it was quite good for the early game. However, I really don't think I want to waste 5 level ups to get the faith to 14 this time. So the other option is making a weapon divine. The question, considering the above which weapon would be good for the purpose, and what would be the cheapest way to upgrade it and still be effective for that one time.
OTOH, maybe this isn't the best approach and I should instead plan to make a real decent divine weapon? Or (sigh), stick to Astora's, waste my 5 levels (some farming will do) and maybe even level it up? Astora's vs. making my own.

anything you have lying around that you can use + like the moveset off. bastard sword (sold by andre) is probably very close to the weight/stat requirements of the claymore for example.

i usually just bow and arrow the necromancers though.

Well given that the bastard is almost identical to the claymore that sounds like a good idea. It's only until I get the necromancers, and also for Nito's escorts. I know you can actually go in and just hunt the necros but Nito's helpers are always a problem. Really don't want them stabbing at my back while I deal with the big guy.

Mace or club. Large or Great Club if you want overkill.

Whatever you like the moveset of, preferably as close to your primary weapon as possible.

Note that once Frampt is available, you're pretty much covered for basic and green titanite, which are all you need to get to +5, and enough White Chunks should drop along the way to the bonfire you can warp from in the Catacombs that you should get the rest of the way by the time you get the Large Divine Ember. So I wouldn't fret about the titanite.

he doesn't really. you can feed him red/blue/white chunks, so red in your case, to get them. but chances are you won't have all that many red chunks lying around. (though i guess all you need is 2-3 chunks for 1 weapon)

the maggots in blightdown drop them with some regularity though, that's how i usually get mine early game.

Put on your best farming gear and a flame weapon & farm slimes in the Depths in the corridor next to the bonfire chamber. That's the easiest way. Drop rate isn't fantastic, but it's very easy and you can just run back and forth to the bonfire to reset in a few seconds.

Last game I killed about 100 of the damn critters and they never dropped a green stuff. Got loaded with the other thing they drop though (large titanite shard?)

cuz it would be kinda counter productive to use green shards to make a flame weapon to farm green shards to make a divine weapon.

pyromancy might work.

the mobs in blighttown also have a chance to drop multiple at once + they drop large shards more often.

oh ofc once you get to sens forthress/anor londo you can also just buy green shards of the vendors there.

Actually, killing those maggots as a sorcerer is completely easy. With the lesser soul arrow in fact. But I never got them to drop ONE green titanite, the bastards. Had a bit more luck (but not much more) with the slimes in Depths.

Whatsername's furysword. Boss weapon. No green titanite required or use bombs, they're 50 souls a pop from the undead merchant in the burg

eh still tricky since that requires 10 large titanite shards which means either farming more maggots or clearing sens forthress, at which point you have vendor access. pyromancy/magic seems the way to go tbh.

(and even worse if your main weapon needs large titantite)

Well I guess I could go back down there after doing Sen's and getting the ring, but by then it seems easier to buy it. That farming I related occurred while I was in the pre-Sens' Fort phase.
I'm going to need a lot since I'm building a magic weapon and that divine weapon.
