A question for Pyromancers...
I recently made a pyromancer character, and their spells are REALLY powerful, but because maxing out you pyro glove cost hundreds of thousands of souls I reached late game content at only level 40 or so. Sure I have a +5 Ascended Pyromancy Flame but all my stats are so low compared to a normal build.

So my question is, when YOU do a pyromancy build in Dark Souls 1, do you prioritize leveling up, upgrading your pyro flame or somehow do a little bit of both?

I did mainly use my souls to level up in the early game and some of the mid game but then was I started getting a lot of souls from bosses I used them all for upgrading my pyro flame. Doing a pyro build kind of feels pointless because of all the souls you spend on upgrading your pyro flame instead of leveling up.

+5 is not high enough. Dragon Ring of Moar Magic works, as does Dust's head gear.

I don't run a single focus character. Left over from D&D runs decades ago. Bows when appropriate, DEX makes spells faster as well as bows more accurate. VIT/END must be high enough to handle the OHK from mini-bosses, END must be high enough for fast rolls with your standard gear, slower for a more protective solution is okay for a slow roll (26-50% equip weight).

This advice is worth what you paid for it, wear it in good health.

Good Luck

If you're not using exploits you should focus on both. Since the glove will become your main damage source think of it as a very expensive to upgrade weapon and not a catalyst. If you're doing PVE then your SL is kind of irrelevant. One of the reasons why Pyromancy is so good is because it has no stat requirements so even SL1s can use it on SL runs. You can do Co-Op for more souls or just progress to NG+ to finish your build. The same is true of PVP except you need to know what SL you want to stop at for PVP.

If you're using exploits just dupe enough souls to get your glove to +5 Ascended and level to whatever SL you feel like stopping at.

OP has an Ascended +5 not a +5 my dude. An Ascended +5 is technically a +20 but for WL purposes it's a +15. The rest of your suggestions are on point though.

When I make a pyromancer I always try to stay in level range for random coop. Therefore I stay a while on SL 25 or 30, playing with +10 weapons and pyro flame. Then I have two options: either I play lot of coop and do some progress in my game until I have enough souls to upgrade my pyroflame to ascended +5 and do some level ups at once.
Or: I finish the game with this SL 30 / +10 char and get all needed souls for upgrading and level ups in NG+ then.
And on NG+ I continue to level up, I also like to put my points in dex then and make a pyro / dex hybrid. Such a char works very well and can easily go to higher ng+++....

I used to use the boss soul duping exploit in DS1 PPTDE, which was a godsend, but I don't know of any such exploits for Remastered. And even if I did, I bet they're much more tedious to pull off. The soul duping in DS1 PPTDE was so easy to do that it felt like a intended game mechanic. If you accidentally ate the boss soul while soul duping that was painful though. I'm not sure how much pvp I'll do with this build but I guess I could try and help people in co-op for more souls. Going into NG+ without a finished build really bothers me, but it seems like that's a normal thing in Dark Souls 1. I'm ranting too much but I've always thought that DS1 doesn't have enough content. My builds never feel finished at the end of a full playthrough. It should have had a second or even third dlc to allow us to finish builds without having to go ng+.

This is one of the characters I'm currently building. He's nowhere near done. I plan on getting dex to 45 for cast speed. I'll look for a dex weapon to normal +15 so I can use resins and other buffs. Not sure what attunement I'm shooting for. End goal is to be able to fast roll in this build without Havel's so I can use Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring. Chaos Notched Whip is just for memes. It's a terrible weapon aside from being unparriable. Kellogs Angry Knife is the main weapon because A) it's good and B) it looks cool and is a better weapon for the King in Yellow.

Yeah soul/humanity duping in PTDE was cake. Duping in Remastered is a lot of work but it will cut a grind out so in the end it's worth it.

I'm don't have enough patience and confidence to beat the game at a low SL but you make a good point about putting points into dex first and later on making it a dex-pyro hybrid. Maybe I should have done that...but I had a plan from the beginning to just make a really strong pyro character.

That's pretty cool! I've always wanted to wear King Jeremiah's full set and more or less roleplay as him.

I just saw your comment at the bottom of your post about soul durping in Remastered. Do you know of a video that shows how to do it?

Oh, I'm not RPing as Jerimiah or even a Xanthous. That character is the King in Yellow. The Unspeakable One. Him Who is Not to be Named.

Sure. This is, in my opinion, the best video tutorial on this particular method of the glitches. There are two methods: PC only and Console. The PC version can do both.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EBdGudMjyc

There's prompt swap that allows you to use consumable items and then there's negative value prompt swap that allows you do dupe 99 of an item (souls, humanities, upgrade materials) but both use similar techniques in practice. Getting the double menu is tricky, especially if your timing is bad like mine. Be careful to not accidentally close the double menu before doing the glitch.

I know who that is. I dare not disrespect him. I was just saying randomly that I would like to rp as King Jeremiah. Idk if I would actually use that whip though.

Yeah don't. It's terrible and a waste of resources.

My pyro is SL 47. It's mainly for pvp. But having done many playthroughs on other characters I can say the only bosses I would probably rather level up for would be Kalameet, maybe Sanctuary Guardian, and Manus. They hit hard and are more difficult than other bosses in the game.

Also Power Within get that if you don't have it, flat buff to any damage you deal. Crown of Dusk or Dark sun crown (can't remember the name exactly, it's the one gywndolin wears) will also buff any magic (which includes pyro).

Since it was for pvp I mostly just farmed the Darkroot Forest guardian npcs there to upgrade the glove, not including host kills. Boss soul rewards and anything else extra up to getting the Lordvessel went into leveling the character.

The reason I mention Power Within is because if you would need to level character before completing the glove, it's like a bandaid fix for lack of damage until glove is fully upgraded. Then it's just more damage anyways. And better with either crown I mentioned.
