If you are careful about timing, and running, and dodging and yes, even using a shield, it's possible to beat it legitimately without dying.
Then again it seems like most players hate everything about gravity and pits in this game, so I guess I"m not surprised.
Admittedly yeah, a lot more could have been done, but I still love Lost Izalith overall, I love the aesthetic of chaos trees overrunning the lava ruins. The creepy pit with the chaos eaters is great too.
Not to mention the shortcut that lets you completely skip two other bosses.
