But one thing you can't do in the Remastered is this: https://youtu.be/n8FVqGfdqNE
PTDE is awesome just for that.
Hope this helps!
(1) Support for 60 FPS without using DSFix.
(2) Quality of life improvement such as consuming multiple copies of something like souls or Humanities. Giving 30 Humanities to the Fair Lady is much, much faster now. So is giving a bunch of covenant items at the respective site, e.g. Souvenir of Reprisal and Eye of Death.
That said, DSR has much better KBM functionality out of the box. DSR is the future of this 'first in the series' unless you only want to play offline, but that gets boring fast. Others have also said additional positives for the remastered.
It's a great game, people whinge way too much, but agree how it was a cash grab and split the community. Then again DS2 and DS2 SotFS set the stage already so no real surprise.
I do not regret picking up DSR with my 50% PTDE bonus off the price, perhaps you do not know you get that discount...?
It still has most of the glitches though, which kinda sucks. At least from a PvP standpoint. Also, invaders can chug Estus now, which is just dumb, since they already have a huge advantage over lone hosts. There's also weapon-level matchmaking in DS:R, but doesn't really do anything to prevent twinks, instead only reduces co-op action. Some don't like the higher contrast lighting either. Also, the 60FPS is a hard cap. It can't go high, but lower is also not possible, without making the game unplayable, because lower framerates reduce the gamespeed. Paired with the removal of the original, this kills all legacy support.
Yeah, I was one of the people who got burned during the DS2 -> SotFS transition. Was not happy about that...
I know there is a discount on the remastered version. Honestly, I would pay $10 or so for it. I suppose I would be inclined to just get it at $20 if it were a straight upgrade, but with some people saying the remastered is worse in some ways, idk...
Then it's honestly not worth it. DS:R is the definitive version, but not a big enough improvement over PtdE, especially if you consider, that FromSoft never bothered to properly fix it themselves, but instead charge money for a proper fix.
The physics glitches from PtdE at higher framerates aren't too big of a deal, if you don't go higher than 60. Only affects sliding down ladders (only the one at Undead Parish near the rats consistently), slopes and jumps. I always play at 58FPS capped and use the "toggle framerate cap"-key (BACKSPACE-key by default), to switch between 58 and 30FPS when walking near slopes, where you can slip off at higher framerates (Firelink buttress, Crystal Caves), before a jump or sliding down the ladder leading to lower Undead Burg, which i've fallen through the floor once.
However, after I tried to play the original PTDE on Steam it took only five minutes before I bought the Remastered on PC as well. The shaders and lightning look much much smoother, not to mention the game runs 60fps without bugs. Some of quality of life improvements as well.
Each to their own, but after doing that side-by-side comparison the purchase was a no-brainer for me personally, as I still regularly played Dark Souls at that point and as PTDE-owner I got 50% discount.
