Good Equipment/Spells for a Sorcerer?
Hey there folks. I have been a long time fan of Fromsoftware's Games and was recently considering replaying Dark Souls Remastered on my Playstation 4. I have never really bothered with a dedicated Intelligence or Faith Character before, usually going straight for Dexterity... But this time I was kind of thinking I would try out the OP world of Magic.

Anyhow, I was wondering if there are any items/spells particularly good for a Spellcaster type? Catalysts and fast combat spells specifically. I am hoping to sort of "Upgrade" between the beginning of the Game, Anor Londo and finally The Lord Souls/DLC so that I have the best chance of finding decent Spells and Catalysts.

I believe Homing Soul Mass was particularly useful. I figure that Logan or the "Student" following him would have that. Homing Crystal Soul Mass is probably something Logan has after visiting The Duke's Archives.

Anyhow, please let me know if there are any "Must Haves" in terms of Spells or Catalysts and where they might be found. I figure a Sorcerer can be an interesting Character to try, even if it might end up being a bit anti climatic.

Much appreciated in advance.

I run crystal magic weapon, crystal soul spear, and dark bead. If you have the attunement for it, I add power within and pursuers. This combo isn't necessarily for clearing levels, maybe use great soul arrow or whatever for that, but this combo will melt just about any boss.

Those do sound like some good spells to add later on.

I started my Sorcerer Playthrough recently and brought Griggs back to Firelink Shrine. It appears as though he has one very expensive Ring that Boosts Sorceries, which I will probably have to grab for 20,000 Souls down the line.

Otherwise, right now I have Four Attunement Slots with Soul Arrow, Soul Arrow, Greater Soul Arrow and a Healing Miracle I forget the name of. It made quick work of the Bell Gargoyles, which was... Interesting, if not a bit anticlimatic.

I might go after Manus, Father of The Abyss with this build. That fight took quite a lot of tries with my Dexterity Build, but Sorcery does seem to have some pretty significant Advantages. Although it does often feel a lot less immersive than proper Close Quarters Combat.

Don't forget Crown of Dusk. I consistently find that Seathe, Artorias, Manus, and maybe the 4 Kings have high magic resistance. Good luck with Manus. I usually have to face tank him for 5 minutes straight before he dies

Much appreciated on the Video link!

As for Manus, he definitely has a lot of Health to him. High Magic Resistance is probably going to do a number on my Sorcerer, but he has lots of Spells to sort of "Throw" at the Enemy.

I changed it up so now he has Two Greater Soul Arrows, One Homing Soul Mass and One Heal slotted. 40, 10 and 5 Uses respectively.

Soul Spear
Crystal Soul Spear
Dark Bead
Homing Crystal Soul Mass
Pursuers

Crown of Dusk
Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring

If you need variety, add an Uchigatana. The dex will increase your spell speed, and the bleed will be good throughout the game. Good Tracer is also excellent for the same reasons, just no buffs. I’ve never wished I could buff it though, that thing is insane.

Manus will eat you alive if you go in only with Greater Soul Arrows. Get the bigger guns. Manus is also very good at dodging magic, so having a backup weapon is essential if you are new, because you’re going to run out of your big spells and Greater Soul Arrow will feel like wet paper to him.

Power within is a flat 40% damage boost.

Power Within doesn’t even scale with the glove. You can be overpowered without investing anything more than an attunement slot lol

Funny my glove says 230.

That number only impacts spells that deal damage, such as Fire Orb. Buffs, like Power Within or Iron Flesh, are not affected by magic adjustment.

Nobody is saying Power Within is bad...it’s just not affected by the level of your pyro glove. You’ll get the same effect with a +0 glove as you do with an ascended +5. That’s not my belief, it’s programmed into the game lol

I had no idea that Dexterity increased Casting Speed. On the other hand... This is really my first true Sorcerer, so I suppose it my knowledge would be fairly lacking. Heh.

Anyhow, that actually might be a really good idea. Like I said earlier, I usually play Fast DEX Builds with... And this may shock, an Uchigatana. So it would undoubtedly become the ultimate synergy between this grossly OP Sorcery Stuff and my more Close Quarters fight style.

I just got done with defeating Ornstein and Smough. So the difficult Bosses in Vanilla are toast. Four Kings might give me trouble as was previously suggested, since they do indeed have high magic resistance if memory serves.

Anyhow, I appreciate all of the advice sent my way. It should not be too long before I unlock Logan's Crystal Sorceries.

Magic kinda tears the 4 kings up, they just have so much HP as a collective that you may run out of your big spells.

You’re welcome! Glad to help.
