I had an issue where my controller wasn't recognised by the game once. Restarting my PC fixed it.
It happens that games don't "understand" that I'm using a PS controller, but when I switch my settings to "Generic Gamepad" everything works.
I also need to emulate an Xbox controller sometimes, for this I use 360CE. Have a look, maybe it'll set things right. JoyToKey is an option, albeit a last one.
Just something to try.
I don't want to fix it, I know how. What do I do that causes this? If I can't prevent it I still want an explanation and google keeps being "unhelpful", I end up rewording questions a dozen ways, excluding 30 things(like "-disconnect", the controller does not disconnect) and still get no answer.
I really am starting to hate looking stuff up on the internet. It was once fun, but trying to "speak" the same language as...whoever google is written by, makes 90% of the responses useless to me. For someone whom prides themself on vocabulary; how can it be soooooooo impossible for me to ask direct questions with laymans terminology. Would it help google if I put "fam" at the end of my query?
I sure found a lot of people complaining about the same thing when I googled "why can't I get a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ answer from google any more?", lol. I'm not alone, the world is becoming a "uh-uh-uh" Youtuber setting the bar for "proper explanation".
Google has become like the woman in the air port talking to David Spade in Tommy Boy; answering a different question than what was asked, 90% of the time.
I was trying to run past the Prowling Demon on the bridge to Lost Izalith and it always did the jumping attack.........at least 30x in a row as it's 1st move! I can't block it...can roll away from "attack", but not it's "body" and it always kills me no matter what armour/rings I have on because my char has 298hp and this is ng+, lol. After I calmed down I just killed it on my way there(muuuuuuuuch easier when it gets stunned, stay on it's left), lol.
That plus having to close the game so my roommate could play games and restart it in my bedroom, then the opposite when he was done...I can't blame HIM for this game "forgetting a wired XBOX360 controller is the only mouse I have", because he wants to play Grand Poo World 2 and has to keep putting it down when he gets angry. The kid above my room plays basketball(I blame the parents), so sometimes I just have to sit out there to play remotely or watch him.
BTW; I'm at ng+2, now. About to fight O&S...not looking forward to Nito again.
To do this you start the game and press Shift + Tab, go to controller settings and match the keyboard hotkeys. You lose the sensibility of your R2 and L2, so you can't walk slowly.
Tip: Google "dark souls 1 controller" to know the default setup so you don't have to check for every hotkey.
As far as I know, this is the only solution that doesn't require you to download any shady program or spend 14 hours on your PC settings every time you want to play DS1.
I've played with the PS4 controller using Steam controller emulator and it works
I've played with the Xbox One controller and it works
