Can you open the "Crest of Artorias" door from behind?

granted, you would need to kill the hydra in order to climb up the ladder, then get through the tree - and npc enemies, but could you open it from behind or do you need the Crest of Artorias from Andre regardless of the side of the door?

You can't; there is no prompt when you approach it from the other side, not even if you have the Crest of Artorias.

well, a bit later in the game the 20k for buying the Crest will look like a good deal, its only early that this amount seems huge :)
