Can't get Peculiar Doll

I've returned to the asylum and killed the Stray Demon (although he killed me at the same time, so I didn't get the titanite slab!).

I've also killed both black knights, but the door to my cell is closed and there appears to be no way to interact with it. I can see the item that must be the doll, but I can't get to it. In all the videos I've watched, the door is open. Is my game broken, or is there some trigger needed to make the cell accessible?

My advice is to just exit the game and load it, usually if there are some bugs that should fix that... I had a strange bug where the Iron Golem boss didn't appear at all. XD So, hope exiting the game and reloading or maybe completely closing it will solve it.

I have the same problem. And reloading game doesn't help. Also I tried to rest near bonefire, to change location and to return there again, but the door is still closed. Is there any way to open door or get the dool dy another way?

Pretty sure the only way to get it is to go to the cell you began the game in.

I ended up completing the entire rest of the game, including DLC, but could not get the doll or do the painted world content.
Unfortunately, in my experience this bug is permanent for your save.
