Why can't you warp to all bonfires?
Why some and not others and why can't I tell without leaving said bonfire if I will be able to return to it?

Wtf is the point of this? Did they run out of space in the data file? What does it accomplish apart from wasting time to intentionally limit fast travel? I'm so tired of retracing steps in this game.

I swear the number of dumb little, easily fixed pointless detractors from this game sink the whole thing.

Because the world is so intertwined you should be able to manage. That's part of the immersion, learning the world and all of the shortcuts. A single quick example would be when you discover what Lautrec does when coming back from the hell that is Blighttown it's so powerful. Little things like that make it so much better than being able to warp every 100 feet like in DS3

It would be exactly the same if you could teleport back. You know, apart from wasting my time.

Why do something that wastes your time?

lol

I ask myself that question every time I have to retrace my steps over ground I've already covered several times with nothing but pleb enemies that are no longer challenging in the way.

To make you run around more and pad the length out. You can at least make the argument that not being able to warp pre lordvessel is a positive, I don't agree, but its possible. This is just lame and has no redeeming attributes.

Agreed. I get the idea of working it into the progression. Same thing with homeward bones being limited consumables instead of having the aged feather, or starting with the miracle.

Not being able to warp to everything AFTER gaining warp ability though it just aggravating.

Dark Souls is about farming and exploration. if you could just warp everywhere for any reason, you wouldn't be able to see all the majestic scenery Form Software developed for us. Fast Travel always kinda ruins the experience for the casual gamer

I'm not asking to be able to warp to places I've never been, just to be able to warp to checkpoints I've already discovered, like you can in the other two games. You'd still have to travel through every place and discover it... once. My gripe is about the 15th run through the same area, not the first one.

I did come up with one plausible reason why it's like this though. Since in this game you can kindle bonfires and boost your estus, and it stays even if you rest at another, you can basically just kindle one bonfire to max and warp from there to wherever you're going. You don't have to kindle each one unless you can't warp to it, and if you could warp to them all, you'd only kindle more than one bonfire just for time-saving convenience. This would seem like a valid reason, except that you don't need to keep the "retain any excess estus beyond what this bonfire can provide" mechanic unless you have to rest at bonfires to respawn there (unlike ds2)... which you don't need to do if you can warp them. It's a self-contained solution/problem that ultimately adds up to be a time-wasting annoyance.

Because every area has shortcuts and everything connects and loops in some way.
