What problems? I've been using DSFix for years, you just drag and drop the files into the data folder and enable them in the .ini file. Boom, instant 60fps, and the option for better graphics.
There's also a multitude of bugs not even addressed, such as the infinite backstabbing, their dedicated servers are ONLY fro matching and not for the entire invasion (so you get all the same laggy and connectivity issues with PvP as you did before), The bonfire by Vamos is useless without teleportation unlocked via Lord Vessel or you're just stuck down there, the graphics in many areas have been dulled and look ugly as hell (check out the waterfall by the hyrda, or the Elite Knight armor), weird lighting transitions and issues, your limbs and joints all break when you dodge roll and I don't even know how you mess that up...
It's honestly one of the laziest remasters you could ever find, and they had the nerve to charge people $40 to upgrade to it, when it should have EASILY been free. This is not definitive in the slightest...it's a cash grab, made worse because they dropped the old version and forced everyone to buy the new one, like George Lucas and the Star Wars Special Edition nonsense.
If you don't have DS at all, it's utterly senseless to buy Prepare to Die edition. It has low res textures and requires dsfix, 30FPS cap without dsfix (and bugs happen like sliding through the world at 60 FPS). Even with the frame rate uncapped to 60, it's not nearly as smooth moving as remaster.
I agree it should have been free, but it WAS only US $20 for people who already owned Prepare To Die Edition when it launched. The games bugs haven't been fixed, but the engine has been modified enough to run well at 4k @ 60fps. It also annoys me that (just like scholar of the first sin), remaster has split the community in half into two different versions of the game. But it is what it is, just get remaster if you have to choose.
"PTDE + Dsfix > Remaster" is just plain nonsense.
That said Prepared to Die is only available through key resellers these days at an inflated price due to being taken off the market. I was lucky in that i got prepared to die as part of a cheap bandai namco bundle on humble bundle store around 2015 i think.
Subjectively people will always ♥♥♥♥♥ and moan about the strangest things.
It's much smoother and the online part is more active.
The original looks much better though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCy5hO6i5eM
