wtf is pvp in this game
i come from dark souls 3
i get invaded by this dude wearing the havels set and he has a big curved sword (sry not familiar with the weapons in ds1) and i hit him with my +10 claymore for 1/10 of his health, and one hit with his sword leaves me with 1/5 of my health
what is this?

That is a living meme. Mostly Try Hards and Die Hards still play this game with the occasional new people wandering into bs like that. It's part of why the souls games have also died out (no one wants to play a co-operative game full of min/max heroes and monsters that terrorize even the experienced.

You may have heared people say that armor in DS 3 sucks ..well that's because it does compared to 1 and 2. You fought someone in havels .. it's .well .. havels. Resistant to everything and when I say resistant I mean resistant. Try bleeding him out / backstabbing / abusing his slow speed and don't go for an actual head to head fight.

lol, PTDE has been alive for years with zero "weapon level" restrictions...

OP: it's what you get if you combine a balanced but deep pvp combat system with a matchmaking that ignores experience and equipment lvl on purpose and even suggests abusing or punishing unfair situations

That's the secret hidden quest: find worthy enemies on your level for duels of bliss and learn your ways of dealing with facing experience and equipment gaps.
One popular solution is blaming the "beyond broken pvp" but there are others

Lmao that's the PvP in this game, go back to DS3 cuz it's far better than this one. Most people who PvP on a basis will minmax their poise/resistance, aka havel mom. Plus the mechanics in this game favor backstab fishing and its tech, so unless you wanna spend many hours learning it for a near-death game, don't bother.

In my case, almost in all PvP I get smacked by just having less life and poise. Don't know why. One hit of mine is just insignificant with all my bleeding or other effects applied, not to mention when I am trying to backstab I can't be on the right spot but the other guys just backstab me without a single problem. And of course, It will be too naive to think that all are so skilled.

I hate the effortless backstabs too. I think those are just a result of bad server connection (even when it doesn't look like it). I've had a lot of people pull me out of a dodge roll with a backstab and sometimes even when on my character's side or several in-game feet away (good ol' lag stab). All the while, I struggle to connect my own perfectly aligned backstabs (which could be the problem).

I've heard some say they learned to backstab on the original console version (when dealing with poor connections) by gradually learning to adjust for it (typically realizing they are standing directly behind an opponent when in-game it looks like they are still slightly on their side). Similar things happen in fighting games where players gradually learn to play with lag so it seems safe to expect that these pvp kings and queens are just people who adapted to connection problems.
