First boss (Asylum Demon) but no weapon

Where do I find a sword and poison? D:

I attack with fists, but in the equipment screen I see a broken sword equipped.

I do a damage of like 3 HP.

To get the demon to drop his Great Hammer, you have to beat him without dying and without running into the antechamber. This is especially easy in NG+, but your first time without going into NG+ requires patience. Wait till' he does the buttpound, then run behind and stab him. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Use your broken sword two-handed (Y by default on an XBox Controller) and go to town.

Pick the thief class and have your starting gift be black firebombs. Thief has a master key by default meaning you get two starting bonuses. The black firebombs pretty much delete the Asylum demon making them a good pick for quickly killing him. So use them and you'll get his hammer without even needing to work for it.
