Are infusions permanent?
I come from ds3 experience where elemental infusions aren't permanent. Is that also the case in ds1. Also what would be the best infusions?

You can reverse all infusions, except the Crystal ones. Best infusion is usually standard upgrade path, but it really depends on your build.

Best infusion depends on build/situation/purpose. As a basic rule, on low stats, elemental weapons outdps standard, but on high stats, standard (+15) is stronger, and it can be buffed on top of that, whereas elemental weapons can't.

Edit: Might as well explain.

Elemental weapons do not scale with stats, so any stats past what is required to equip the weapon is meaningless. Exception is chaos, which scales with humanity, but caps at 10 humanity.

Yeah usually elemental weapons (or at least fire/chaos/lightning) are for when you don't use want or need any scaling. These work well for playthrough 1, PvP up to SL70, tho you will see some in 100-125 with chaos zwei/claymore or chaos rapier/bandit knife, these are fine. The magic/faith infusions are for when you are an int/faith user, and do scale. And then +15 is just the best overall when used with str/dex. Pretty sure there's no real point to Raw tho you can of course make a raw weapon for extra challenge or niche use, I guess.
