Str build for first run
So I've beaten ds3, played a lot of ds3, but this game has eluded my game library until now. My friend told me for my first run I should run with the Demon great hammer. I've heard terrible things about it so I'll try it, I do plan on getting a vertical strength weapon as well, but the build eludes me.

What would you recommend for a strength pve stat lineup that can use the DGH and another vertical strength weapon, maybe dabble with some pvp if it comes down to it.

First off don't bother with pvp espically with a strength build you will be VERY limited to what you can actually use with a pure strength build. As far as PVE goes pretty much anything will work and most of the game is pretty well balanced. Just remember that the game isn't difficult the game is simply punishing so as long as you take your time and are patient you will make it out of most fights un touched. As far as levels go get the stats needed to weild your weapon (with strength weapons remember the two handing bonus) and then focus on enduarnce and vitality and always, always avoid resistance. Besides that just make sure your weapon is upgraded and learn to roll. Good luck.

You can cap out at 27 Strength. With that you will deal the same damage (two-handed) as one-handed at 40 Strength. Also i would recommend a hammer. (reinforced club, mace) espacially the mace staggers like crazy. gl hf.

Lolimancer got it right, 50 STR is a MUST to get the most out of the scaling on these weapons. You'll need quite high END to swing the weapon more and to have a decent running speed. Vitality is a must, too, because you'll be taking some hits trying to swing that gigantic weapon.

I want to note that the Demon's Greataxe outclasses the Demon's Greathammer. If you acquired your DGH from the Asylum Demon, then go ahead and use it, but upgrade to the Greataxe as soon as you can. The DGH has a B in Strength scaling. The DGA has an A in Strength Scaling, and once upgraded to +15, this becomes an S, which is the highest possible scaling. It is the strongest strength weapon in the entire game, and can be buffed! They both have the same speed, and while they don't have the same moveset, it won't affect anything.

Yeah I found this out pretty quick in my research (luckily spoiler free), but it's a suggestion from my friend who says shes never seen anyone use the greathammer. Honestly I can see why nobody would use it, as it is literally one of the least recommended weapons

She said that "yeah, but this is dark souls, and all I hear is 'it's a challenge' right?"

If you're looking for lighter options or a decent backup weapon, I would also recommend the hammer class weapons, particularly the mace and club, both scale well, have solid movesets, and are fairly light.

I agree with Lolimancer except you may want to just scale your armor down and use a red tearstone ring once you git gud because it's more useful for a STR build to kill everything in one hit than stand around trying to tank. In fact just throw your clothes off and do dragon body.

A strat I once saw with that was dragon form + havel shield spec, it's terrifying and effective at pummeling everything around you into a pulp.

The hammer has its uses. It can smack a particular boss in her weakspot...
