DSR vs DS3
Basically, my question is what are the major differences between this and DS3? I'm new to the Souls series and want to get one of the games, and based on many a review and critique have decided that DS3 is my predicted favourite. But then this game came to my attention and now I don't know what to do. Are there any big things which fundamentally differenciate the gameplay between the two games or is it kind of the same thing but with a brand new title slapped on? Thanks in advance!

The most noticable thing between Dark Souls 1 and 3 is the speed at which you and enemies perform attacks. Dark Souls 1 is noticably slower paced and while not true for all enemies and weapons, generally speaking it does take longer for you and enemies to attack.

Then there's a few other things like not being able to heal on ladders, or not being able to take your offhand weapon two handed (DSR). Ofc, there are plenty of other smaller differences but the slower pace is one of the most noticable things. Also, backstabs can be performed instantly which also means they are easy to perform. Can be useful in PvE against backstabbable enemies, can work against you in PvP.

EDIT: Also, PvP matchmaking is basically screwed because people with much better gear can invade you for as long as they have the same soul level, which means that most of the time you get invaded while you have some sort of PvE build, you'll get onehit backstabbed.

Oh also, unlike in all of the other Soulsborne games, you cannot warp right at the beginning of the game. Warping between bonfires is unlocked halfway through the game and is only available for certain bonfires. Keep that in mind when playing DSR as you can get stuck in an area.

DS1 parry, block, roll, stay away and use longe range bows.
DS3 ... roll.

I do get it since I play a lot of coop with my friend but almost every time I end up in PvP, it's being reduced down to my opponent trying to bug himself behind me so he can perform a backstab that almost instantly kills me. Only one time did I have a big of vengeance when one of those annoying backstab dudes thought that I wouldn't be able to hit him through a wall. Ofc I did hit him and he feel off the stairs into death.

Since you said you're new, and I mean if you're really into lore and stuff start with the first game and if you really like it continue through the series. But if you want a casual BUT difficult experience deffinitley start out with Ds3. Have man with whatever game you choose.

DS3 is new gen game

+Better graphics
+Better gameplay
+Better open world
+Better pvp/online

DSR is basically copy paste of old old gen DS1 . Offers nothing new .

How exactly is it better?

It's not in this aspect.

DS 3 is far too linear.

No loop arounds from major areas into other main area's and back again different ways, sometimes multiple different ways.

how does getting new players lost and confused of their location make it better?

I played DS3 first and then went back to DS and DS2. You'll notice a drop in refinement going that route. DS3 is definteily the prettiest and most fluid of the three but that doesn't mean it's the "best" of the series.

I found DS3 to be the best looking but the world itself is just far too linear. DS1 was made for the 360 and ps3, and it shows, but that somehow also adds to the gameplay as the developers had to work with the limitations which resulted in a game which is more metroidvania-ish with more loops and shortcuts. The remastered edition definitely brings DS1 to the modern day visually speaking. There are times where you'll be amazed at how old the game is. Playing it, you'll see how little the developers have really added to the series since DS1. It's definitely worth it even at full price for someone who has never played it.

TL;DR:
Get both, play both.

So you'd prefer it to just be a straight line that you go along instead of a properly interconnected world where you have more than one way to get from one point to another?

I have fun with ds3

So do I, especially in PvP because it doesn't feel completly broken but I can't say that the overall linearity of the areas is really better than the more interconnected areas of Dark Souls 1 where there's more than one way to get somewhere.
