Since the controls are done well, I am way better in Dark Souls with m&kb.
OP - Yes, pc hints are here. Keyboard letters are displayed when interact options shows up or navigating trough menus.
Each to their own I guess. I prefer most games with mouse and keyboard myself, although some titles are better with controller. You would play better with controller 110% if you tried it for a while, no one plays Souls games better with mouse and keyboard, simply because it's not supposed to be played like that. It's just supported because some people still want that option. Inprecise how? You have better control over camera, with mouse and keyboard there will be a clunky rotation, that will be smooth with a controller. Everything you do will be more efficient in both combat and movement. There's not necessary for any more buttons that there is on the controller, you have all the buttons made to play the game, only reason I could see with keyboard is some hotkeys, but that is not needed at all.
Playing with mouse and keyboard is considered a challenge run in the Souls games. But I can understand why someone would prefer it if they're used to it. A good example is Asmongold, who started playing the Souls games. He tried controller but didn't like it and changed to mouse and keyboard. He plays very clunky compared to a controller user, but he manages.
Gonna roll off topic, but I guess its fine as long as we "respect each others opinion and do not trow verbal poop at each other". It was stupid. I am sorry. Anyway..
It could have something to do with controller sticks(and sometimes the controller as a whole) not feeling confortable to me. Or its something in my brain not being able to adjust - I don't know.
Its hard to explain. And its even harder to explain in english.
The way camera works is obviously very important in the game like this (third person action or platformer). Its common knowledge.
I and other players on youtube sometimes die, because camera was not adjusted accordingly. I personally sometimes forget - too focused on the enemy or there is some stupid wall or something else that the camera might bounce off, etc.
With mouse this happens much more rarely. I am more aware of my surroundings. I adjust the angle.. umm.. instinctively? I don't have to think about buttons. Its like breathing.
So when you write - "You have better control over camera" - in my case I have to 100% disagree. However, this holds true as long as mouse controlls are fine. If its a mess of a port like Nier Automata - I prefer a controller. Same for Dark Souls 2 mouse button input delay.
With controllers I have to think. And since I am so special, that I can't tell apart left from right instanlty - it takes me a second or two to remember which is which (appearently its a thing, I did some reading about it years ago, khem, anyway) . It gets quite annoying to see RB, LB, RT, LB(and then there is LT+RB or smthn) promts. My brain just... freezes for a moment.
Of course - there was a time when I could not use WASD with one hand and could not aim for ♥♥♥♥ in CS1.6. Spent many hours playing against bots when I came back from school and I had a blast. I had no internet connection. Later I went online and.. I was surprisingly decent at the game and other shooters afterwards.
Yeah, if I used a controller for months, of course I would get better with it, but... its not that important. Its just stupid videogames. I don't make my living with it.
Like you said - for each their own.
ps. Your Dark Souls play time. Holy sh... :O I don't think there is a game I've spent 1000hrs in. Maybe WoW, but I doubt it. I mean I have.. maybe a 100hrs across all Souls games, so its almost like my opinion does not count in comparison. Damn.
When you've played with mouse and keyboard for the majority of the time, I understand completely that you're more comfortable with it. People who've almost never used a controller will have a hard time adjusting and vice versa.
Yeah if you're not used to a controller im guessing it's more difficult than mouse and keyboard. Asmongold is the perfect example, he have been playing World of Warcraft since the beginning and he just couldn't use a controller in Dark Souls, however his performance with mouse and key was significantly better. Yet the right hands will perform better with a controller, simply because of the fact that the game is designed for controller use, the keyboard and mouse bindings are just there for people like Asmon.
re: Way too much time spent in this Series lol, but I mean 10k hours since 2008, that's 417 days through a 11 year period, not too bad. I only speak after my experience though, I always want people to get the most out of the enjoyment of the game.
Theres no some kind of controller superiority as some hardcore controller users claim.
Every competetive dark souls runner uses controller and that's for a good reason. You'll never see someone make a world record while playing with the mediocre pc controls. It works just fine if you're playing through the game a few times, but if you plan on playing consistent and doing very well in a long term, controller outperforms. If you're used to playing only with mouse and keyboard, then yes you'll perform better than with a controller. But From Soft designed the game for controller use, ever since Dark Souls came out. The pc keyboard bindings were a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but they made it more optimal for enjoyment from both sides, yet the Souls games remains a console game at roots. Dark Soul Prepare to Die Edition was a terrible port but worked like a charm with dsfix and mods. Dark Souls 2 controls were just okay, same with Dark Souls 3 and remaster. That's the thing. They are just fine but not great which controller are. I would've taken you seriously if you had some more hours into it, but it really takes more time to be able to see perfectly how the mechanics and game works to an extend where you are able to see what works the best. You are used to keyboard and mouse and most likely haven't played too much with a controller so you'll naturally think that. I've played a long time with both.
Edit: You would completely change my mind by getting a speedrun time in any of the titles comparable to the top 10's
You are great example of these controller elitist wannabies. In this topic you throw in your opinions like absolute truth. Just cuz u sux with keyboard doesnt mean every1 sux with keyboard. No matter how long wall of text you write about it.
Theres ABSOLUTLY NOTHING in this game that makes me wants to do it on the controller. And im used to controller abit so i know what controller is capable of. I dont see anything that would make me say "oh, this would be done better on controller".
Yes im quite aggressive in my responses sometimes, it's still just my opinion. And you're entitled to your opinion but you're still a inexperienced player who needs a few more thousand of hours to understand what you're talking about, that's just how it is. I've played a long time with both. I never said I were inexperienced with mouse and keyboard. I've done more than enough on both things to understand how and why the controllers works better in Dark Souls. But hey maybe it's just me and every other competetive player playing on Twitch and Youtube. Get a good any% speedrun with the pc controls and I'll completely agree with you. I'm simply going after years and years of testing and experience, and community statistics.
Oh, so now its "i have on record more hours played, thus i have truth". I have played DS (both, dark and demon souls) on consoles, with controller, i have played it now on steam with k+m (i run all 3 DSs over xmass on k+m). Im not going to run game on background to get time played up just to "look cool and all pro". I actually prefer k+m over controller simply for way more convenient camera control. Other things are more or less on par.
So i could easily start screaming that k+m is superior, but i wont. Cuz its not. Ppl used to controllers will do fine with controller, ppl used to k+m will do just fine with k+m. I didnt find any difference in diffucultiness betwen these 2 control options (but well, i wasnt runing these glitch-paradise runs so i dont know if controller makes it easier or faster to glitch thru map floors etc).
So pls, stop scaring ppl with this "u mus uz controlar, kaybor and mauz too hard". Theres already this scarecrow that game is somehow unnaturally supermegahard.
