I also learned this the hard way a long time ago on Xbox when I was newer to Souls. I was also disappointed, 'cause I thought it'd be a cool way to cause some variations in the game.

Im letting you play how you want, i was just acking whats so smart on that. You can just run around Taurus to other side of "boss arena" and be right there without detour.

You could enter the arena the normal way then trick the demon into jumping off of the bridge. That might cheer you up.
