Do i need to face Capra demon to go to Depths?

I purchased the game on a xbox 360 but play mostly on pc, liked how the difficulty in this game is. I fell that over 95% of the deaths is my own fault, but there are a exception. This capra demon. Two dogs who stun lock me and the camera in a 2m arena is terrible. I an playing as a sorc, i can't cast a single spell before die. Note that i killed other bosses like Taurus Demon without taking any damage and only took a single hit from Moonlight Butterfly, the two gargoyles i only died once by fall damage(my fault), but Capra, i can't even damage him, i enter the arena and got insta killed.


The path that i an following is : darkroot garden > darkroot basin > kill the knight > cave(don't remember the name)> elevator > cross bridge> blighttow.

There are a path to depths who i don't need to face this unfair enemy? Don't get me wrong, i don't see any problem with dying, but dying by a terrible camera or being stunlocked before i can even cast a spell is too unfair. If i can't explore this region, then i will skip it.

You need to kill the Capra, to get the key for the Depths. There is no other way. If you come from Blighttown and make your way upwards, the big gate to the Depths will be locked.

Also: it is very important for you to enter the Depths. You need it to pick the large ember and to free the pyromancer.

How I kill the Capra with a Sorcerer:
- free the sorcerer Griggs and buy the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring.
-Kill the Hydra , free Dusk and get a Dusk Crown and an Oolacile Ivory catalyst.
- Get a Shield and a melee weapon, to kill the dogs.
- Then enter the boss room, roll and dodge, run upstairs. Your aim is to kill the dogs first. Run a few rounds ...up...jump down.....run up again, until the dogs are dead.
- Cast some spells to kill the Capra.
( Capra alone isn't so difficult, but the dogs are the problem)

If you have Master Key, you can go the other way around. Go down to New Anor Lond, find the gate to the Drake Valley pass the bridge and enter the cave. You will end in the lower blight town.

Thanks. I will try kill him later in the game. Hardest boss ever and not hard by a fair fight...

If you're having trouble the with Capra Demon you can cheese him by throwing firebombs over the top of the fog gate. But yes you do need to kill him in order to get in to the Depths because the doors will be locked both the front and back (coming up from Blighttown)

Backtrack to Undead Parish, go to Andre, go down past the demon to Darkroot. Make your way deeper until you enter a very wide forested area. Hug the left wall until you reach some ruins and a big stone dude. Just keep running up some stairs past another guardian until you reach a ledge with the Wolf Ring. Use the Wolf Ring to give the middle finger to the stunlocking dogs. I never, ever fight Capra without that ring anymore.

Aural decoy distracts Capra! Giving you an opportunity to just deal with the dogs and dash for the stairs.

Poise is usefull in this fight right at the start for missed dodges, so, Wolf ring.

I din't purchased the remaster, but one question. This strategy works with the remaster?
I don't think that is cheating, is just using a broken strategy to deal with a broken boss.

I don't think that is cheating, is just using a broken strategy to deal with a broken boss.

It's exploiting not cheating; this kind of thing has been aroudn since Demon's Souls. Felt good shooting the first maneater to death before going in lol.
Hell you can even do similar in Bloodborne. The final boss can be hit by A Call Beyond outside of the boss room.


You can also cheese manus with a bow if you're patient enough.

This is a very good advice. I never tried Aural Decoy against the Capra and didn't know how useful it is there.
Tested it right now with my new sorcerer. It made the "fight" very easy. The Capra didn't even look in my direction.

I personally didn't feel like fighting it, so I went out of bounds to skip the fight. Doesn't need master key, but if you do that you may get stuck in the depths, because the door is closed behind you and you don't get a key.

... it's also arguably harder than fighting the demon.

Its the only boss it is usefull against and the devs give you the magic vendor who sells it to you just before you fight capra :).
