what is a good strength weapon

zweihander in firelink graveyard, greataxe in depths, large club if you farm it from the fatasses that wield them in blighttown, or greatclub at the bottom of blighttown.

And also you can try the Man-serpent Greatsword. To farm from the Snake guys in Sens Funhouse.

Black Knight weapons are great if you are willing to invest a little bit in dex.

Black knight axe or sword if you get lucky for them to drop early, very overpowered in ng run and still good in ng+.

Zweihander is a solid choice Its r1 attacks are not that great except crowd control, but it's r2 attacks knock down most enemies.

there are many other options later in game but around early to mid game zweihander is extremely easy to get, you can actually get it right after you first arrive at firelink, and black knight swords can be gotten early game if you are extremely lucky since the knights are one time spawns until the end, but a black knight sword puts the game in easy mode.


Oh and if possible ditch the drake sword before sens fortress, it still works there but starts showing it's age, by the end of anor londo it is pretty much garbage as you should have the large ember by then and the ability to buy large titanite shards.

str weapons depend on what you wana go for ultimately the top 3 best str weapons are by scaling
large/great club great does more dmg but large is in proximity and poisons
demon greataxe has from what i know highest scaling out of all mele weapons strength if you got the stats to wield it,
demon greatsmachete slightly less than greataxe, but it makes up for it in the reach if you can deal with the moveset not being the greatest it is a good weapon for those who want to do raw str builds

if your looking for just raw damage then i would suggest try the dragon cov. if you get your str up to 34 you can equip the dragon king greataxe and if it is lved up a little the dragons should pester you no more with that power strong atk best part is you can buff it with both the dragon roar attack and magic spells someone might correct me on this but from what i heard the boost in dmg from the spells actually boost the power attack that consumes durrability.

Some of the weapons listed are QUALITY weapons. In other words, a quality weapon scales fairly well with BOTH strength and dex.

Some pure strength examples:

Great Club

Mace

Greataxe

Greatsword

Demon's Greataxe

Demon's Great Machette


The Black Knight weapons and Zweihander are quality, meaning that they get great damage bonuses from both str and dex. It's a term that came from Demon's Souls, where you could perform an infusion to make a weapon "Quality" which improved it's scaling on both Strength and Dex. Similar to "Refined" from Dark Souls 3.

Zweihander is probably my favorite, especially with a faith build revolving around darkmoon blade and wrath of god.

Black Knight Great Axe is a close second.

I would agree the zwei and technichally dark knight weapons are not strength weapons, but they do very well on strength builds, and with the op being early to mid game, unless he dumped all his points into strength those quality weapons will carry him and work perfect for a strength build until later game when a higher soul level allows him to run high strength weapons without leaving other stats in the dust.

If you want to go pure str maces will be great, start with greatclub and build towards enough str for demon greathammer. The club is in the swamps, same as the sack (drops from butchers and butcher invader) you need to trade with snugly for the demon greathammer.
Smoughs hammer if you want to go bigger.

The minimum dex for a Zweihander is 10. At 10 Dex and 40 Strength it does 528 damage unbuffed. Nearly 1000 damage with Darkmoon Blade, and MUCH more with Power Within stacked.

At 40 strength, and 40 dex the Zweihander does 610 damage. You only get 82 more damage, but have to put 30 more points into dex.

So really it can be built many ways and be powerful.

I prefer to not put 30 more points in dex, and throw it in faith, and take that to 50-ish. It really just depends on how you wnat ot play it. Both builds are viable, and powerful for different reasons. I just feel 30 points in faith, is much more flexible than 30 points in dex for 82 more unbuffed damage. A sorcery build using Crystal Magic weapon works almost as well.

If I didn't want to buff it, then a quality build would be just fine.

It has a C str scaling and a D dex scaling, it's a Quality weapon. It doesn't favor either highly and you're meant to put nearly equal skills into both unless you take it down an elemental upgrade path. Yes you can use it as a Str or Dex weapon but that's true of any Quality weapon.

thx for all the help everyone. yea so i put all of my points into strength and just enough into dex and i got lucky and had the black knight greatsword from the first black knight of the game. i got it to +3 for now. Im also thinking of using a fast strength weapon and im considering the claymore which i got to +4 so far. im at blighttown if anyone has any ideas of what i could get up to this point. ill also take a look at some of the other weapons recommended by everyone
