Why dragons are actually the good guys
Hey so a little bit of back story to this, my sis also plays ds so I said hey the dragons are actually good guys, and she said, I wanna see an entire essay explaining why, she saw this and approved, so here you go people of the internet.(sorry about grammitical errors)

Dragons are often seen as the enemies in the Dark Souls series, but this isn’t true. Dragons are actually peaceful beings, but one day Gwyn came around and destroyed everything for them. Now you might think this sounds stupid, but the reasoning for the majority of the dragons attacking you are perfectly reasonable. For example Kalamite, the black dragon found in Oolacile just wants to be left alone. The first time you meet him at the bridge outside of the Oolacile shrine he just flies near you and looks at you, almost like a warning, seeing as how violent he is when fighting him he would probably just kill you right then and there. But no, he spares you, because he considers the arena you fight him in his territory. Think about, the arena is big and open, and he only attacks you when you’re there. But maybe this is just a coincidence, maybe he is different from all the others, but according to one other, the stone dragon in ash lake, they mean no harm. They’ll even help you. But why? Well this dragon, according to the beginning cutscene has been pushed down to ash lake. So this dragon has given up if he helps you, that or ash lake is his home, and if it is his home, then this is further proof that they are peaceful beings. But some are obviously more aggressive, for example the drake at the undead burg. He knows that any human that is not already hollow is trying to link the first flame and restoring the gods to their former power. Which as we know, the dragons and gods are enemies. There are some other dragons, or descendants of dragons that will attack you, but that is for good reason. There are protecting themselves. Because the gods, and to a large extent the humans, try to kill any dragon they see, it’s not unreasonable that they think anything that isn’t a dragon wants to kill them. The dragons as stated earlier are peaceful beings. This being further proven by Dark Souls 3. Archdragon peak. Or as we know, the home of Gwyn's first born. You'd think that sense the nameless king, Gwyn’s son and god would be a major enemy of the dragons. But no, the dragons let the nameless king join their ranks without any problem. But with talk of dragons, there is one dragon you can’t avoid talking about, Seath the Scaleless. Seath as we know has betrayed the dragons and exposed their weakness. The reason being probably is is that Seath, because he is a dragon with immense knowledge would think that this would be a bad idea right? Well no, he would have to do this for a reason. He’s up against gods. Seath knew that he couldn’t win, and thus betrayed the dragons and became Gwyn’s conspirator. Well there has to be an enemy in the dark souls series right? The abyss. But the abyss and dragons have always been around, since the dawn of humanity. So wouldn’t think that the dragons and the abyss would fight each other. But there is no evidence of this happening. So they got along with each other. And before the gods fought the dragons the abyss gave the gods their weapons. This shows that the dragons and the abyss are even helpful. And if you think that this because the abyss wanted to try and kill the dragons. There are some dragons that thrive the abyss, the primordial serpents. Almost any lizard/snake like being is a descendant of dragons so it would make sense that they they are a type of dragon. So what about the one that brings you to the kiln of the first flame. Well like Seath this serpent knows the war between the dragons and gods is one he can’t win and so he betrays them. So, who is the enemy, well it must be Gwyn, and you. But there is a way to avenge the dragons, not link the fire.

Not sure how I feel about the Abyss and the dragons becoming friends. Take a look at Darkeater Midir, descendant of the archdragons whose main purpose was to destroy the creations of the Abyss. Him along with other beings that fought this darkness inevitably became corrupted by it.

Dragons are the most victimized group in Dark Souls for sure. The target of a genocidal war, betrayed by one of their own, the god that sided with them and the half-dragon daughter are exiled to be forgotten, and only the everlasting dragon left to live in secrecy.

I forget if there was even a reason given for Gwyn and his knights killing as many dragons as they did.

Whatever the reason was it came with consequence. If you talk to Gough he mentions that for every dragon slain, three knights would perish in the process. And then there were even some dragons they just wouldn't mess with, like Kalameet. "Not even mighty Anor Londo dared provike his ire".

I guess life isn't very fun if you are a lord with reeeeally high self-esteem, but there's dragons sitting around everywhere staring at you like "I could always just eat you if I wanted to"

I would find it a little odd that the Hellkite dragon knows about the fate of the undead, I think he just thinks the sunlight shrine is his home or he's just like the drakes in the valley and can fly but doesn't really want to and is just really annoyed when people run around under him and try to cut his tail off and things. He also has the same kind of encounter as Kalameet if you remember, even though unlike Kalameet he doesn't stare at you.

And yeah I just personally looked at the Stone dragon. He flaps his wings when you approach like "Boo!" but he doesn't do anything even if you attack him. Doesn't seem like they were very bothered about dealing with slight annoyances that can't harm them. The drgaon gives you some of its powers for scales. I wonder why.

Seath betrayed his fellow dragons because he was scaless, mortal and wanted to become immortal by pillaging the sacred crystal.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Oh my god. Paragraphs.

And then he accidentally whipped his crystal with his fatty tail and died.

You are wrong at the end. You say humanity and the abyss has been around in the age of fragons, but it's false. Only with fire came disparity. Light, and DARK, which is lightning/sun and darkness. Souls and humanity. Gwyn and the furtive pigmy.

First age of dragons, which Gwyn didn't like, thus came the age of fire. But Gwyn wouldn't like it to end, thus wants to prolong the age of fire. Next would be age of dark, thus the new enemy is darkness, the abyss. So first enemy is dragons, the next enemy is abyss.

Also Seath betrayed his own because he wasn't immortal. Simple as that.
