DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED

Is it normal that you instantly enter New Game+ when the game ends?
Kinda annoying

no, actually it's pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad decision to keep it in remaster tho. i really get 2012 release game have a flaw like it, but keeping it in a 2018 remaster is hillariously bad

Your character is burning to (un)death mate. Hard to get things done when that happens.
2 and 3 broke in-universe consistency by putting convenient things like this in the game and I actually don't like it.

The game ends and that's that.
The reason it sends you to NG+ is because you got two choices after you've killed Gwyn.

Either leave the area for one ending or light the bonfire for another ending.

If they just added an option to select the ending it would spoil the fun for new players who decides to just leave the area instead of lighting the bonfire.
The issue is that the final boss is designed so that if you abandon the fire, it triggers the dark ending. Not really much room to change how it works.

I mean, it would be simple to make so a homeward bone takes you back to Firelink, which would be the first instinct of someone who doesn't want to make the decision.

That's super easy to implement. I understand the reason for not implementing it, though, since they didn't want to change the original.
They could do like in DS3 tho that asks us if we want to start a new journey after we made our choice.

I like how every decision is unforgivable in DS 1. Like per ex. give the wrong answer to some NPCs. That's the tue DS feeling.
You have to figure out the consequences the hard way.
Dark Bead is also too OP, and makes the game a cakewalk.
That's how the game is made, the choices you make have consequences, you gotta learn from your mistakes. Just wait killing him before you want to go to NG+

it's not a flaw it's part of the game. you can only make two choices to either leave or link the flame. Adding an option to do neither would break immersion and also be problematic, not to mention personally I didn't like it in 2 or 3 either. It doesn't even make sense for you to not choose either since leaving the door to the boss fight triggers the Dark Ending making it literally impossible to trigger the Link the Fire ending if you were able to leave somehow without activating the endings.

How is it a flaw. The game is over, it stats a new game+, where is the flaw in that.

You're thrown outside of various coop regions, have no access to upgrade further, get missing quests completed, etc etc

Things you can all do and prepare for if you know beforehand that's what starts NG+.
why is this post still alive the question has been answered?
It's not a "flaw", but it's not a positive thing either, it just... is, it's how the game was designed.
The real issue was in your expectations from having baggage in the later games and expecting this one to behave in the same way, that's it.

Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne all are like this. The games with a NG+ prompt are actually in the minority in that only 2 and 3 have it.

imo it would be weird to walk around in the souls world knowing that the fire has been linked or left to burn out. the overall vibe wouldnt work etc....all the npcs would have different motives etc, it wouldnt make sense......thats like the culminating moment, its gotta be over
