How do I restore my save file?

Hacker ruined my save file. Apparently the guy has been doing this stuff for over a year in other Souls games. Hasn't been banned. Is still allowed to play online. Valve is refusing to offer a refund for a situation that could have prevented. No indication that you could have your save files ruined by using online play in the advertisement.

If you did not backup your save, there is no way of recovery.

That's absolutely horrendous.

You need to manualy backup your save, located in

Documents\NBGI\DARK SOULS REMASTERED

open the next folder, (named with a bunch of numbers) right click and copy the file, paste to your desktop

Do this periodically, To restor just copy the file on your desktop and paste in to the folder shown above.

Now enjoy the game without worrying about a hacker ruining your save file.

Just so you're aware, if you block a hacker on steam via his profile, you dont ever see that person in your games anymore at all.

I appreciate the suggestion; however, it doesn't get my time or money back. Hacking like this wasn't an issue on PS3, but apparently it's a big problem on PC that was never addressed for the remaster. They could have easily implemented a back-up feature into the game. They didn't. That tells me they don't care, or don't see a problem with what is going on.

I purchased this game to have some fun and to play DKS1 again. Now I can' play co-op without running the risk of losing my game. Time lost and money lost.

What is most disturbing is looking over these threads and seeing the same accounts come up over and over again with complaints from at least last year across multiple Dark Souls games with zero action from Valve. I don't understand how something like that happens.

You're letting a bunch of asshats dictate how to behave in ds.
Just get a tool like praise the save and backup every 10 minutes or so. Hacker shows up ? Alt+F4, restore last save. No problem.

Absolutely no reason for you to not have fun with a game you bought because of someone else.

I have nothing to back up. I have to start over, and after seeing how the hacking/cheating problem is being handled I have no interest in starting over. I lost an evening of gaming because a person with a history of cheating across multiple games was allowed to continue their behavior for a year without any action from Valve. At some point Valve has to take responsibility for this situation. Valve is running the store selling the game and acting as the online matchmaking platform (I think). It's a situation they could resolve, and they chose not to.

Doesn't ALT+F4 put you into an LPQ style system?

If you do it all the time yeah you'll get put into a bad pool or softbanned but there's no reason to do it that much.

Just when you get hacked, or not even then depending on how bad it is.
Exit game, restore last backup, start game. Whole process takes maybe 2 minutes if you're very slow.
